ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -Elle Pickle rallied from last place to edge Christmas Ship by 1 3/4 lengths Friday in the $52,000 feature race at Santa Anita.

Elle Pickle, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, ran 1 1-8 miles on Santa Anita's turf course in 1:47.69 and paid $8.20, $4.20 and $3.60. The win was the third in 15 lifetime starts for Elle Pickle and was worth $31,200, raising the career earnings of the New Zealand-bred 6-year-old daughter of Deputy Governor to $49,311.

Christmas Ship returned $6 and $3.40. Opal Haze finished third in the allowance race for fillies and mares and paid $5 to show. Forest Melody, the 3-2 favorite in a field of five, led into the stretch before fading to finish fourth.

Each of the five entries carried 120 pounds except Christmas Ship, who carried 116.

After running fifth in her U.S. debut, an optional claimer at Del Mar on Aug. 21, Elle Pickle was shipped to Golden Gate Fields where she turned in a strong fourth at odds of 45-1 in the Miss America Stakes on Sept. 20. She was beaten by less than two lengths while gaining on the leaders at the wire.
