HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) -Notonthesamepage beat You Luckie Man by 8 1/4 lengths and just missed a track record in the Spectacular Bid Stakes for 3-year-olds, the first of two $100,000 stakes that opened Gulfstream Park's 79-day meeting on Saturday.
Delightful Kiss bested Bullsbay by three lengths in the second feature, the Grade 3 Hal's Hope Stakes for 4-year-olds and up.
Ridden by Elvis Trujillo, Notonthesamepage covered the six furlongs in 1:08.48, missing the record by 0.02 seconds.
Notonthesamepage paid $11.40, $5.40 and $5.20. You Luckie Man returned $3.60 and $3.40. Bee Cee Cee, a 54-1 shot, earned $8.40 by edging Silent Valor, the 6-5 favorite, for third, 4 1/2 lengths behind You Luckie Man.
Making his first start in three months, Notonthesamepage broke a bit slowly from the post but took the lead midway down the backstretch. In front by a length on the far turn, he led You Luckie Man by two lengths at the quarter pole with Silent Valor third. He increased his lead with every stride throughout the stretch.
Delightful Kiss, ridden by Calvin Borel, was last in the field of 14 on the far turn before making a huge move on the outside to earn the victory over the mile in 1:36.13.
Delightful Kiss paid $12.40, $5.80, $4.40. Bullsbay earned $7.80 and $6. Famous Patriot returned $23.40.
Notonthesamepage, the son of Catienus, bred and owned by Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, set a track record at 4 1/2 furlongs at Churchill Downs last April in a maiden race but lost the Tyro Stakes at 1-10 odds in his next start.
He has won two of six starts and $109,078.
Delightful Kiss earned his third stakes victory in his last five starts, all with Borel aboard. He raised his career earnings to $882,873.
