August 6, 2009
By Anthony Stabile
VegasInsider.com
Welcome to Stabile’s Saratoga Special. Throughout the 36 day meet at America’s most revered racetrack, VegasInsider.com writer and handicapper Anthony Stabile, dubbed “King of the Spa” after his record setting ROI for a public handicapper at the 1999 Saratoga meet, will take a look at the stakes action for the day as well as give you a free play in one of the stakes that day. For all of Stabile’s daily Saratoga selections and plays, CLICK HERE!!!
Today’s Saratoga Special will be short and sweet. I hate steeplechase racing and I don’t think it belongs at Saratoga. It’s a complete joke. Unfortunately, today is the G1 Smithwick, so it’s technically the featured race of the day but I already feel I’ve spent way too much time on it so there isn’t a snowballs’ chance in hell that I’ll be speaking about the race any further.
The other stake on the card is the John Morrissey for New York breds. It’s essentially a two horse race between last years winner Ferocious Fires who’s won four of his five starts at the Spa and Driven By Success, third in his last three starts. They are impressive show finishes however as they came in the G1 Carter, G1 Met Mile and G2 Tom Fool.
That’s it for today. The Saratoga Special will return to normalcy tomorrow. We’ll have plenty to talk about this weekend as well, not only in this space, but in the Weekend Stakes Roundup as well.
THE PLAY Though I didn’t go into depth about either stakes race, I’m still going to give out a play. In race 3, bet $100 to win on Past the Point. Total plays cost $100. Good luck!!! BANKROLL: minus $71
