Jockey Aaron Gryder to ride in Hong Kong

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -Aaron Gryder, who rode Well Armed to victory in the $6 million Dubai World Cup this year, is moving his riding career from Southern California to Hong Kong.
Gryder said Tuesday he's been invited to ride under contract for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The 39-year-old jockey has ridden 3,218 winners and has purse earnings of more than $109 million since he began riding in 1987.
But he struggled during the recently ended Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita, where he finished out of the top 15 in the jockeys' standings. Gryder's two young children will remain in Southern California, where he began riding full-time in 2006.
``I still have so much passion for the game and a desire to win at the highest level,'' he said. ``Racing in Hong Kong will give me a chance to ride many more great horses.''
Hong Kong officials observed Gryder riding at Happy Valley and Sha Tin racecourses during two weeks in June, and offered him a contract.
He rode Well Armed to a 14-length victory in the Dubai World Cup in March. He appeared on the second season of the reality TV series ``Jockeys.''
