Blue Grass Stakes
Picks, Analysis and Odds

1 – Hidden Stash (20/1)

Ran off in the pre-race before finishing second in the T.B. Derby when he had dead aim on the winner. Comes out of a race where the favorite didn’t fire and he underachieved.

2 – Untreated (10/1)

Was rumored to be a runner but was awful in his debut. Sold at a dispersal afterwards, he looked good stretching out at Tampa on the Derby undercard but he’d need to take another step forward to compete with the top two.

3 – Highly Motivated (3/1)

Had a tough trip when making his first start in four months when third in the Gotham where he may have been best. He stretches out around two turns for the first time and may find himself on the lead in what is a paceless race on paper.

4 – Essential Quality (3/5)

The undefeated juvenile champ won two G1 races over the course and appears to be the only other horse who could possibly have the early lead. His versatility will come in handy and it’s hard to imagine anyone winning this race besides him or Highly Motivated.

5 – Rombauer (15/1)

I’m a big fan of his but he finds himself severely pace compromised here. Connections were all over the place as to where he’d make his final start before the Derby and found himself in the worst possible place. If someone comes running late it’ll be him.

6 – Leblon (50/1)

Owns just one win from five stars and that was in his lone dirt start with Lasix which he loses on Saturday. Hard to see him doing any damage in here.

7 – Hush of a Storm (15/1)

Scratched out of a spot he’d have been 3-1 in last week to be 20-1 here because that makes sense, right?. Lone try on dirt was awful. Might be the third choice of his stakes win on synthetic. He’s a toss for me.

8 – Sittin On Go (30/1)

Won his first two starts, including the Iroquois at Churchill at 24-1 on Derby Day but hasn’t lifted his hooves in four starts since. I want to bet him the first time he runs on the turf.

9 – Keepmeinmind (8/1)

Was up against it in a number of ways when he made his delayed return in the Rebel last out. Finished second and third behind the favorite in two G1 races here and was one I wanted to give another chance until I looked at the race shape. He’s up against it in a big way again.
