The Baltimore Orioles declined to offer Scott Feldman a contract after last season, a decision that's been working out well for the Houston Astros.

After a stint on the disabled list, Feldman will try to help deny his former team a fourth straight victory in the opener of a three-game series Friday night at Camden Yards.

Feldman went 5-6 with a 4.27 ERA in 15 starts after Baltimore acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in a July 2 trade. When the Orioles let him walk, Feldman (2-1, 1.69 ERA) signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Astros and was flourishing prior to going on the DL with right biceps tendinitis.

He was 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA over his first three starts before giving up five runs - four earned - and nine hits in six innings of a 5-1 loss to Kansas City on April 17. He felt discomfort when playing catch three days later and hasn't started since.

"The DL is very boring, so hopefully I ... can get back out there and pitch the rest of the year," Feldman told the team's official website. "I've been throwing, and it feels like all that's cleared up and I'm ready to go."

Though the left-hander was with the Orioles only briefly, he's looking forward to going back to Baltimore.

"It will be fun to see some of my old buddies over there," Feldman said. "I talk with a few of those guys on a regular basis."

Feldman is 7-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 12 starts and four relief appearances at Camden Yards, and he'll look to improve those numbers against a Baltimore team that completed a sweep with Thursday's 3-1 win at Tampa Bay.

Adam Jones had two hits and Steve Pearce hit a two-run homer in the second for the Orioles (18-14), who have won six of eight. Nick Markakis extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the third.

Baltimore has won 10 of the last 12 meetings with the Astros (11-24), who ended a five-game losing streak with Thursday's 6-2 win over Detroit. George Springer hit his first major league homer and Jose Altuve added a two-run double.

Springer, a highly touted rookie, is hitting .313 during an eight-game hitting streak after batting .170 through his first 12.

"It's obviously good to hit something hard and to have a great result like that," Springer said. "I didn't try to do too much - was able to stay on it and hit it hard, and for me that's a great sign."

Baltimore-area native L.J. Hoes went 3 for 3, and he could be in the lineup against his former team in this contest. Hoes was traded from the Orioles to Houston on July 31 in the deal that sent Bud Norris to Baltimore.

Wei-Yin Chen takes the mound for the Orioles looking to improve on his last outing. Chen (3-2, 4.24) has gone 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA over his last four starts after giving up three runs - two earned - in five innings of Saturday's 6-1 loss to Minnesota. It marked the fourth time in his six outings that he failed to pitch at least six innings.

"I tried to make a good pitch to get hitters out and I couldn't do it like in my previous outing," Chen said. "So I was kind of having trouble, that's what happens out there."

The left-hander, though, gave up three runs and struck out nine in 7 1-3 innings of a 4-3 win over the Astros the only time he faced them July 30.
