Preview: Mariners (20-27) at White Sox (21-24)

Game: 3
Venue: U.S. Cellular Field
Date: August 26, 2012 2:10 PM EDT

The Chicago White Sox are making a habit of playing from behind during this homestand. They also have plenty of experience doing so when Gavin Floyd starts.

Floyd takes the mound Sunday when the White Sox try to complete a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners.

Chicago won its fifth straight with a 5-4 victory Saturday. The White Sox rallied from a three-run, first-inning deficit, with Tyler Flowers hitting a tying home run and Dewayne Wise driving in the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Flowers entered in the third when starting catcher A.J. Pierzynski and manager Robin Ventura were ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

"It was a little different for sure, but it all worked out and we got the win," Flowers said. "That's the most important thing."

The White Sox have given up at least one run in the first inning of four of their five wins on this homestand, which ends Sunday. They were behind 1-0 Friday after the first and then blew a 7-2 lead in the ninth before winning 9-8.

Chicago maintained its 2 1/2-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central and improved to 7-1 against Seattle this year. It has won 23 of 27 overall versus the Mariners.

The White Sox are trying to complete their first undefeated homestand of at least six games since July 2010, but could use a good outing from Floyd (9-9, 4.56 ERA), who only went 2 1-3 innings against New York last Monday.

Floyd allowed three runs, five hits, four walks and hit a batter on 58 pitches in his shortest outing of the season before Chicago eventually won 9-6. It was the fifth time in six starts Floyd has fallen behind an opponent.

"Gav just didn't look like he had it," Ventura said of the quick pull on Floyd. "He was struggling to find location. This isn't one of those teams you can put guys on."

The right-hander had another ugly outing against the Mariners on June 2, allowing five runs, nine hits and four home runs in five innings of a 10-8 loss in 12 innings. He had a 1.27 ERA over his five prior starts against Seattle.

Kyle Seager is 0 for 6 against Floyd, but he homered twice and drove in four runs Saturday.

The Mariners (61-66) have lost their last two following an eight-game winning streak. All of those victories were at home, though, and they have dropped seven of nine on the road.

Looking to avoid getting being swept, Seattle will hand the ball to Kevin Millwood (4-10, 4.29), who hasn't had much success against the White Sox, going 1-7 with a 3.82 ERA.

While Millwood hasn't had much help in those outings, averaging 3.2 runs of support, he wasn't sharp in losing both his outings against them this season. He gave up four runs, walked five and hit a batter in four innings of a 4-2 loss on June 3.

The right-hander is looking to build off two solid starts - both Seattle wins. He allowed three runs in six innings of a 5-3 victory over Cleveland on Monday, but didn't factor in the decision and is winless in his last four starts.

Millwood is 0-4 with a 7.00 ERA in his last seven road starts going back to May.

Adam Dunn, who went 0 for 4 Saturday, is 9 for 22 with six homers in his career against Millwood.
