The New York Mets and Miami Marlins are both getting ready to finish up disappointing campaigns.

While the Mets are bringing back their entire coaching staff in 2013, there remains much more uncertainly surrounding the Marlins and their plans for next season.

In what could be Ozzie Guillen's last game at the helm, the Marlins try for a three-game sweep of the visiting Mets as both clubs wrap up their seasons Wednesday afternoon.

Though Guillen still has three years remaining on his contract, it remains to be seen if he'll be back after Miami (69-92) failed to live up to expectations, finishing at the bottom of the NL East.

"Right now, I'm coming back tomorrow because they don't tell me anything today," he told the Marlins' official website. "Maybe tomorrow they may change their decision and say they don't want me back.

"It's not my department. That's up to (owner) Jeffrey (Loria) and them guys, who is coming back here in any department."

New York (73-88), meanwhile, will finish fourth in the division for the fourth consecutive season thanks in large part to a 27-48 record since the All-Star break.

Though there figures to be some new faces on the field, all six Mets coaches will return next year.

"I think you can get carried away by blaming coaches for a lot of stuff that happens," manager Terry Collins told the team's official website. "If you didn't see work ethic, I can understand coaching changes. If there were issues that some guys had, I can understand that. But I was around these guys every single day, and there hasn't been a day go by where they haven't tried to stay positive."

There haven't been many positives to take away from the Mets' recent efforts. They've been outscored 15-7 during a four-game skid, falling 4-3 in 11 innings Tuesday.

Gorkys Hernandez and Rob Brantly both homered off Cy Young candidate R.A. Dickey to give the Marlins an early lead before Donovan Solano came through with a bases-loaded single in the 11th.

Miami will try to keep things going against Mets rookie Jeremy Hefner (3-7, 5.32 ERA), who after giving up a career-high seven runs and failing to record an out during a 16-1 loss to Philadelphia on Sept. 20, turned in arguably his best start of the season last Wednesday. The right-hander struck out seven over seven innings of three-hit ball to beat Pittsburgh 6-0.

"Everybody in this room was here for his last start, saw his emotions, and saw that he was upset. He had something to prove tonight - that he can pitch here," Collins said. "I believe he showed everybody he belongs here. I was very, very happy for him."

Hefner was also sharp in his only start against Miami on Sept. 1 but didn't factor in the decision of a 5-3 road win, giving up two runs and six hits over six innings.

With Mark Buehrle already shut down, the Marlins will give the ball to Tom Koehler (0-0, 5.40) for his first big league start. The right-hander allowed one run and three hits over two-thirds of an inning of relief during Monday's series-opening 3-2 win.
