An offensive barrage led by Carlos Gonzalez has given the Colorado Rockies some desired momentum.

A fall off a bicycle may provide an unexpected obstacle.

Gonzalez looks for another strong performance at the plate as the Rockies attempt to overcome an injury to scheduled starter Jeremy Guthrie against the New York Mets on Saturday night.

Colorado (10-9) collected 19 hits with four homers and two triples in an 18-9 win over New York (11-9) in the opener of this three-game series Friday. The Rockies' offensive romp included an 11-run fifth, during which Gonzalez drove in five runs with a three-run homer and two-run single.

The All-star left fielder finished with three hits and a career high-tying six RBIs, raising his batting average 23 points to .269.

"Hitting's kind of contagious and we ran off a few in a row, and got some momentum," said shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who had two hits, including a solo homer Friday.

Tulowitzki is hitting .439 with six homers and 10 RBIs in his last 10 meetings with the Mets, while Gonzalez has a career .217 average with four homers and 15 RBIs in 16 matchups.

The Rockies were scheduled to give the ball to Guthrie, but he's instead headed for the 15-day disabled list after injuring his right shoulder in a fall from his bicycle on the way to the stadium Friday.

He underwent an MRI and there was no sign of structural damage but he is dealing with pain in his AC joint.

``At this point, it's pretty much pain. That's what I have. There's no (other) issue,' he said. ``I have some pain but when that goes away, I can throw, and everything is a go.'

That could be a serious blow after Guthrie allowed one run and three hits in seven innings of Sunday's 4-1 victory at Milwaukee.

Instead of building on that performance, Guillermo Moscoso is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs and make his season debut in Guthrie's place.

The right-hander, who was acquired in a three-player deal from Oakland in January, lost three of his four starts in the minors while compiling a 7.91 ERA and allowing opponents to hit .393.

He was much better with the A's last year, going 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA in 23 games - 21 starts.

The Mets put forth their best offensive performance of the season Friday, but their worst defensive effort in more than a decade contributed heavily to their loss. They had 17 hits but also committed six errors - one shy of the team record set in 1996.

Scott Hairston is looking to build on his outstanding performance in the series opener. The center fielder became the 10th Met to hit for the cycle, getting four hits and four RBIs. He's now batting .265 after compiling a .172 average over the first 16 games of the season.

"It is bittersweet," Hairston said. "It was great while it was happening. But when they kept scoring runs, it really wasn't that enjoyable to say the least."

Hairston is 10 for 20 with six RBIs in his last five games at Coors Field.

The Mets will give the ball to Dillon Gee (1-2, 5.21) for the first time against the Rockies as he tries to rebound from one of the worst performances of his career. The right-hander was tagged for seven runs and 12 hits, including two homers, in 6 2-3 innings in a 7-2 loss Monday to the Giants as he was unable to prevent a doubleheader sweep.

That performance came one week after he threw seven crisp innings while allowing one run in a 6-1 victory at Atlanta.
