The San Diego Padres have been awful on the road this season.

Still, facing Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo at Miller Park could produce a positive result.

San Diego goes for its first back-to-back road wins in nine months in Sunday's series finale.

Despite posting a 5-2 victory Saturday, the Padres (20-40) are a major league-worst 6-20 on the road.

They haven't won consecutive games outside of San Diego since a three-game sweep over Colorado from Sept. 19-21.

"It's been tough for us on the road," said right fielder Will Venable, who had an RBI double Saturday after missing four contests with a strained right oblique. "It's nice to play a good, clean game and come out on top."

The Padres have done that both times they've faced Gallardo (4-5, 4.50 ERA) in Milwaukee. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA in those contests, with the last coming Aug. 20, 2010, when he walked five and surrendered six runs in 3 1-3 innings of a 10-6 defeat.

Gallardo gets his second look at the Padres this season after throwing six innings of three-run ball in a 5-0 loss May 2. He had a 2.08 ERA in two previous starts in San Diego.

After their three-game winning streak ended Saturday, the Brewers (27-32) could use a quality start from Gallardo, who gets the ball for the first time since striking out a season-high 10 in Tuesday's 10-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

That marked just the fourth time in 16 career double-digit strikeout games that he's lost.

"He had great stuff," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke told the team's official website. "Ten strikeouts, five runs. Doesn't make sense."

While Milwaukee will try to end its nine-game homestand with a winning record, the Padres continue their nine-game trip with Anthony Bass (2-5, 4.21) facing the Brewers for the first time.

The right-hander is 2-4 with a 4.34 ERA in 11 starts in 2012 after giving up four runs over 5 1-3 innings in Tuesday's 6-5 win over San Francisco.

Second baseman Logan Forsythe, whose first major league homer in that contest gave San Diego the victory, will try to hit safely in his seventh consecutive game after going 2 for 5 with an RBI Saturday.

Since being removed from the 60-day disabled list last Sunday with a left foot fracture, Forsythe is batting .409 (9 for 22) with a homer, two triples, a double and four RBIs.

Carlos Quentin should be back in left field for San Diego in the series finale after manager Bud Black gave him Saturday off to rest his surgically repaired right knee. Quentin is batting .484 (15 for 31) with five homers and nine RBIs while hitting safely in eight straight games since being removed from the disabled list May 28.

Quentin has never faced Gallardo.

Padres third baseman Chase Headley, who is batting .352 in his last 13 games at Miller Park following Saturday's 3-for-4 effort, is 5 for 19 with a homer off Gallardo.

Aramis Ramirez, 2 for 4 in each of the first two games of this series, is the only Brewer on the roster to have faced Bass. The third baseman has a homer in three at_bats.
