Preview: Rockies (66-95) at Diamondbacks (64-98)

Game: 3
Venue: Chase Field
Date: August 31, 2014 4:10 PM EDT

Chase Anderson has thrown more innings than in any other professional season but insisted fatigue hasn't played a role in two recent lackluster outings.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' rookie right-hander will try to end that stretch Sunday with another strong outing against the Colorado Rockies, who are seeking back-to-back road wins for the first time in nearly three months.

Anderson (7-6, 3.90 ERA) has logged 131 1-3 innings between the Diamondbacks and their Double-A affiliate, 23 more than in any other six pro seasons. That could provide a reason for his sudden struggles in back-to-back losses in an otherwise solid rookie year.

After recording a 3.16 ERA in his first 15 major league starts, Anderson has allowed a combined 11 runs in seven innings in his past two. He gave up five runs in five innings in a 7-4 loss to San Diego last Sunday and matched a career high with four walks, giving him seven in his last two games.

"My arm feels good right now. That's the more frustrating thing. My arm feels good, and my velocity is good. It's pretty steady and consistent," he said. "You're going to have some struggles and rough patches. You're going to have learn to persevere and stay even-keeled."

Anderson has won each of his two starts against Colorado, giving up one run and four hits in six innings in both. The most recent of those victories came Aug. 8 at Chase Field.

He also outdueled Jorge De La Rosa (13-9, 4.19) in a 4-2 victory in Denver on June 3. The Rockies left-hander is 0-3 with a 5.16 ERA in his last four matchups with Arizona (56-79) and has lost the last two.

De La Rosa has also given up a combined four runs in 13 innings in his past two outings and pitched five scoreless innings in San Francisco on Tuesday before exiting after giving up a two-run homer in the sixth in a 3-0 loss, his first in three starts. De La Rosa bruised his thumb while batting in the sixth, but manager Walt Weiss didn't think it would affect him in future games.

"I don't have any major concerns right now," Weiss told MLB's official website. "We've seen this before with Jorge with his thumb. Hopefully it's just a bruised thumb again and he'll be fine."

De La Rosa will try to lead the Rockies (54-81) to their first back-to-back road wins since a three-game sweep of San Francisco from June 13-15. Their 2-0 win Saturday was just their fifth in the last 32 road games.

Matt McBride hit his fourth career home run in the second inning to back a superb outing from Tyler Matzek, and Charlie Blackmon added a solo shot in the ninth.

Ender Inciarte is 3 for 6 with a double against De La Rosa this season and is batting .314 in eight games against Colorado. David Peralta is batting .355 in his eight contests versus the Rockies in 2014.

Brandon Barnes, who is hitting .450 in 13 games - but only two starts - against the Diamondbacks this season, has never faced Anderson.
