MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Sean Marshall had his second straight rough outing since earning the No. 5 spot in the Chicago Cubs' rotation.

Marshall gave up eight hits and eight runs in 3 1-3 innings as the Los Angeles Angels finished with 11 hits in an 8-4 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday.

``It was tough,' Marshall said. ``I was falling behind in the count and getting into hitters counts, and they were able to put better swings on the ball, and that's what they did.'

Marshall will stay in Arizona to pitch in a minor-league game Sunday to get extra work.

Nick Adenhart, looking to make the Angels' rotation for the first time, improved to 3-0 in the spring. He gave up two runs and eight hits in 6 2-3 innings.

``I feel pretty ready,' he said. ``I got in 100 pitches today, and I feel good. I didn't labor too much.'

The Angels scored a run the first against Marshall before chasing him in the fourth when they sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven runs. Torii Hunter led off the inning with his fifth homer of the spring. Kendry Morales and Jeff Mathis added doubles in the inning.

Derrek Lee was 3-for-3 with two doubles, Kosuke Fukudome was 2-for-3 with a triple and Micah Hoffpauir hit his sixth homer of the spring for Chicago.

Lee has been nursing a sore right quadriceps, and manager Lou Piniella said the first baseman was about 80 to 85 percent healthy.

``He needs at_bats,' Piniella said.

Notes: C Koyie Hill and 1B-OF Hoffpauir have made the Cubs as backups, but Piniella said the final bullpen spots wont be decided until this weekend, when the Cubs play a pair of exhibition games at new Yankee Stadium. ... Veteran RHP Chad Fox will report to Triple-A Iowa to start the season. The four pitchers battling for two relief spots for the Cubs are all right-handers: Chad Gaudin, Jeff Samardzija, Angel Guzman and David Patton.
