TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -John Lackey is prepping for the season while he gets updates from his agent about contract negotiations with the Los Angeles Angels.

He's hoping to have a long-term deal in place before he gets the ball for a likely opening-day start.

Lackey gave up two runs and four hits over three innings in the Angels' 9-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The big right-hander could become a free agent after the season but the two sides are still talking about a new contract.

``We have a few more weeks to go,' Lackey said. ``If they want to get something done I would like to get it done before we start for real.'

The Angels picked up Lackey's $9 million option after he went 12-5 with a 3.75 ERA last season.

Lackey, who is 91-63 with a 3.81 ERA in seven seasons, sailed through the first two innings against Arizona thanks to a pair of double plays. He allowed two runs in the third.

Dan Haren surrendered seven hits and four runs in two innings for Arizona. He struck out four and walked none.

``I threw plenty out of the stretch which is something I needed to do,' Haren said with a laugh. ``I threw one pitch out of the stretch in the first four innings (this spring) and today I threw one pitch out of the windup all day.'

Brandon Wood went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Los Angeles. Reggie Willits and Erick Aybar also had two hits apiece.

``Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong,' Haren said. ``If anything I was throwing too many strikes rather than working the corners. I had a few strikeouts. I just caught a few bad breaks. It was one of those days. I'm not too concerned.'
