SEATTLE (AP) - As Blake Beavan heads into the offseason after his first year with the Seattle Mariners he wants to focus on what he did well.

He'd prefer to avoid dwelling on what he did Tuesday night.

Beavan (5-6) struggled in his final start, going just five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits in a 7-0 loss to the Oakland A's.

Josh Willingham and Scott Sizemore each hit home runs to support seven strong innings from A's starter Trevor Cahill (12-14).

``You look at the one (tonight) and what I've done since I've been up here, you've got to take more good than bad,' Beavan said. ``So I'll take that into the offseason and get ready for spring training.'

Beavan, acquired from Texas in a 2010 midseason trade for Cliff Lee, is among the candidates next spring for a spot in the rotation. He entered the game with 24 1-3 innings without issuing a walk. It was the longest streak of consecutive walkless innings by a rookie starter since San Diego's Josh Banks had a 25-inning streak in 2008. Beavan's 1.27 walks per nine innings are third lowest all-time by a rookie pitcher.

Then he walks the second batter of the game, Coco Crisp, to end the streak. That also was the beginning of his troubles. Crisp stole second, his 49th. That tied him with New York's Brett Gardner for the league lead.

Hideki Matsui singled to right and Willingham followed with his club-leading 29th, a three-run shot that caromed off the left-field, second-deck facade for a 3-0 lead.

Sizemore added his two-run shot in the fifth.

``Blake was a little out of sync, choppy, but what you look for with any pitcher, particularly as young pitcher, is to find it, pick it back up. And he did,' Mariners manager Eric Wedge. ``He needs to look at it tonight and learn from it and look at his entire season, which was a good break-in for him. He pitched well for us, learned a lot and got better.'

Beavan carried a 3.83 earned run average into the game but finished at 4.27.

He said his pitch to Willingham was too inviting.

``I've had good success on him inside and I was trying to go in and just didn't get it in there,' he said.

With one game remaining, Willingham needs one home run for 30 and two RBI for 100.

``It would be really cool. That's one thing about baseball, you never know,' Willingham said. ``I'd be happy either way.

``That's not numbers I set before the season. I've always been a 20-25 home run guy and a 80 RBI guy. Fortunately, I've been healthy this year except for the 15 days on the DL (Achilles). That has allowed me to put up some numbers.'

The Mariners couldn't crack Cahill. He went seven innings, allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking one.

After allowing a pair of singles in the first inning, Cahill struck out Dustin Ackley and induced Mike Carp to hit into a double play. He retired 13 batters in a row and no base-runner advanced past second base.

``The first two guys got on base and I was able to get out of it,' Cahill said. ``So that was kind of a momentum swing since we scored three in the first.'

Craig Breslow and Jerry Blevins each pitched a perfect inning preserve the A's four-hitter.

The A's pushed a couple more runs across in the third. Willingham drew a one-out walk and David DeJesus singled to left. Scott Sizemore singled to right, scoring Willingham and sending DeJesus to third.

DeJesus scored on Kurt Suzuki's sac-fly to deep left.

Notes: The Mariners have set a club record with 1,268 strikeouts. The old record was 1,184 set in 2010). It's the fourth most strikeouts in American League history. ... With a single in the first inning, Ichiro Suzuki has 2,428 hits, tied with Kenny Lofton for 109th place on the all-time list. He has 154 singles, second in the Majors behind White Sox Juan Pierre at 155.
