DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -Roy Halladay cruised through his first spring training start. Blue Jays closer B.J. Ryan had a much tougher time.

Halladay tossed two shutout innings but Ryan failed to get through the third in Toronto's 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.

Ryan recorded just two outs, allowing two hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out none.

``It wasn't anything big and glaring,' he said. ``You miss a couple of pitches here and there and give up a hit and then it kind of gets away from you. ``But you just kind of take it as it is. ... In terms of where I think I need to be and where I am, I think it's closer than it looks.'

Derek Lowe worked two innings in his Braves debut, allowing one run and five hits. He struck out three and walked none.

Lowe went 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and agreed to a $60 million, four-year contract with Atlanta in January.

Ryan walked the first two batters he faced, leading to a visit from pitching coach Brad Arnsberg.

``He said, 'You know what? Your body's outracing your arm,'' Ryan said. ``That's kind of a normal thing when you get in spring training and you get in some tough innings. You fall into a bit of a funk.'

Kelly Johnson gave the Braves a 2-1 lead with a two-run double. Matt Diaz doubled in a run and Brandon Jones had an RBI single.

Ryan may face the Blue Jays his next time out, pitching for the United States team that will compete in the World Baseball Classic. The U.S. plays Toronto in a warmup game Wednesday.

``There are good days and bad days,' Ryan said. ``They are what they are. That's kind of the way spring training is. But you put a little bit more pressure on yourself when you know you're going to go out there (in the WBC) and throw some competitive innings earlier.'

Halladay allowed two hits and struck out two.

``Doc looks like he's ready to go, huh?' manager Cito Gaston said. ``Outstanding. But any time he takes the mound he's that way. He looks like he's ready to open the season right now.'
