NEW YORK (AP) - In the 42 minutes it took to complete a suspended game, the New York Mets didn't do a whole lot well. They popped up a key bunt, pitched poorly and lost their seventh straight at Citi Field.

At least Ike Davis got a hit.

The slumping Davis singled Saturday, perhaps the Mets' biggest highlight as they lost 7-5 to the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings.

``I'm sure it felt good for him ... to get a hit, and off a tough pitcher, too,' Mets manager Terry Collins said. ``So like I said, hopefully it's the start of something.'

The game was halted Friday night because of rain after eight innings with the score 5-all. At that point, Davis had struck out in all four of his at_bats, leaving him in a 1-for-42 rut and dropping the first baseman's batting average to .143.

Braves closer Craig Kimbrel took over in the 10th and hit John Buck with a pitch. Davis was up next, and he did well to keep his hands back on a breaking ball and hit a line drive the other way to left-center for a single.

But Ruben Tejada popped out on a bunt and pinch-hitter Justin Turner grounded into a double play to end the Mets' fourth straight loss overall.

``As I said before, when you're playing bad baseball, you've got to play perfect baseball to win. And so when we don't execute some things, certainly it comes back to hurt us,' Collins said.

The Braves won their seventh in a row.

Dan Uggla, who hit a late home run the previous night, delivered a go-ahead single in the 10th. B.J. Upton later squeezed home pinch-runner Jordan Schafer.

Anthony Varvaro (2-0) pitched a scoreless ninth. He worked the eighth a day earlier and gave up two runs that made it 5-all.

The game picked up right where it left off, at the start of the ninth inning. There was no national anthem, fans were scattered in the stands and it was cloudy and windy with temperatures in the low 50s.

Atlanta and New York were originally scheduled to play Saturday at 7:10 p.m. The resumption ended about 20 minutes before that start time, and the first pitch was pushed back around 15 minutes.

After Justin Upton grounded into an inning-ending double play with runners at the corners in the Atlanta ninth, the Braves won it in the 10th.

Freddie Freeman, who homered Friday night before the rain came, drew a leadoff walk from Brandon Lyon (1-2) and took third on a double by Brian McCann, setting up Uggla.

The Braves' previous suspended game was April 5, 1997, against the Cubs - it was the second game ever played at Turner Field and was stopped because of rain in the seventh inning. Atlanta won the resumption the next day.

The Mets lost in their first suspended game since Aug. 6, 1986, when the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs was halted after the seventh for darkness - Wrigley Field didn't have lights then. The Mets won the completion the next day.

When the Mets took the field Saturday, the public-address announcer said Bobby Parnell was now pitching for New York. Greg Burke finished out the eighth Friday night while reliever Robert Carson warmed up.

The Braves took a 5-3 lead in the eighth on a two-run single by pinch-hitter Evan Gattis. The Mets evened it in the bottom half against Varvaro, who struggled to get a good grip but threw a wild pitch that let the tying run score.

The game was suspended after a 75-minute delay. The start was delayed by rain for 16 minutes.

Uggla hit a solo homer in the Atlanta seventh that made it 3-all. Buck had also connected.

NOTES: Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said RHP Brandon Beachy (Tommy John surgery in 2012) is ``progressing well.' Beachy pitched four innings and gave up two runs Friday night in a Triple-A rehab start. ... Atlanta RHP Jordan Walden (shoulder inflammation) threw a side session Friday and will have another one Sunday. ... The clubs combined TV crews to show the resumption, with Mets announcer Keith Hernandez working with Braves broadcaster Joe Simpson. The regularly scheduled game was a Fox national game.
