SAN DIEGO (AP) - This was just the kind of game Aaron Harang had avoided this season.

After starting the season with wins in his first four starts, Harang gave up three home runs and the Atlanta Braves pounded the San Diego Padres 8-2 on Tuesday night.

Harang, 18-38 over his final three seasons with Cincinnati, was attempting to become the NL's first five-game winner. But unlike his first four solid starts, this one was rough from the outset.

``They're an aggressive team, a fastball-hitting team,' Harang said. ``If you can't locate your pitches, obviously, it shows what's going to happen.'

After allowing a two-run homer to Chipper Jones in the first inning, Harang gave up two home runs to backup catcher David Ross, including a three-run shot that capped Atlanta's five-run sixth inning.

``I think the balls were up in the strike zone and they were connecting,' Padres manager Bud Black said.

Harang (4-1), the franchise's first pitcher to win his first four starts with the team, allowed a season-high seven runs on eight hits with three walks. His ERA rose from 1.88 to 3.90.

``I rely a lot on my fastball command and when you don't have that, you have to flip everything else up there,' Harang said.

Jones' homer tied him with Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle for second place among switch hitters with 1,509 RBIs.

Jair Jurrjens (2-0) limited San Diego to nine hits for his first complete game in his 95th career start. His ERA rose slightly from 0.69 to 1.23.

Ross drove in four runs with his first two homers of the season, including a solo shot in the second inning into the left-field second deck.

Harang seemed to settle down after falling behind 3-0 on Ross' solo homer. But the right-hander, who hadn't allowed a homer in his first four starts covering 24 innings, imploded in the sixth inning.

Jones led off with single, and consecutive walks to Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman loaded the bases. Alex Gonzalez followed with a two-run single. After Harang struck out Nate McLouth, Ross connected again to left for his 10th career two-homer game.

Jurrjens got inning-ending double plays in the first and second innings. San Diego scored in the third after Jorge Cantu's two-out single and a triple by Orlando Hudson. But Jurrjens limited the damage by getting Brad Hawpe on a ground out.

San Diego came into the game hitting a major-league low .209 with the fewest runs scored in the majors.

The left-handed hitting Jones tied Mantle on his third homer of the season one pitch after Jason Heyward reached base on a one-out walk in the first.

Jones, who had his 500th career double in Monday night's series opener, is hitting .341 with four doubles, seven homers and 14 RBIs in 24 games at Petco Park.

NOTES: The Padres fell into a tie with the Seattle Mariners for the worst record in the majors at 9-15. ... In his only other start in San Diego, Jurrjens lasted just 3 1-3 innings last season on April 12 when he allowed a career-high eight runs in a 17-2 loss. ... San Diego RHP Evan Scribner made his major league debut with two scoreless innings. ... Hall of Famer Eddie Murray holds the switch hitting record for most RBIs with 1,917. ... The Padres reinstated OF Kyle Blanks from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Double-A San Antonio. Blanks, who played in 33 games last season for San Diego, had season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on July 29.
