PHOENIX (AP) -Cutter Dykstra knows what made his dad a successful big leaguer, and he hopes to emulate him.

Dykstra hit an RBI double and scored a run in his first action in big league uniform, helping the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Oakland Athletics 8-5 Friday.

``It was great; probably the most fun I've ever had playing baseball,' said Dykstra, 19-year-old son of Lenny Dykstra. ``The ultimate goal is to perform and put on a show.'

Dykstra came on as a pinch-runner for Jason Kendall, who doubled with one out in the sixth, and scored when Corey Hart singled sharply up the middle against Russ Springer.

``I remember going with my dad to the Mets' camp when I was in the seventh grade and was sitting near the on-deck circle thinking, 'Maybe one day I'll be out there,'' Dykstra said. ``I've tried to model my game after him. I want to leave the field with people saying, 'He plays the game just like his dad.' My dad played the game right.'

Dykstra had his RBI double in the decisive three-run seventh inning.

Jerome Williams made his first appearance in a big league uniform in nearly two years, working two scoreless innings. Williams, a non-roster invitee to the A's camp, has not pitched since the Washington Nationals put him on he disabled list after a start May 15, 2007.

``It was weird to be on the mound again and throw in a major league baseball game. Last year I had no spring training.'

Williams hasn't won a game in the majors since beating the Houston Astros on Sept. 25, 2005. He carries a seven-game losing streak into the season.

``I was trying to get rid of the butterflies in my stomach,' Williams said. ``It was like, 'Here I go again.' But once I got the adrenaline going I felt confident about things. I know there are a lot of guys here fighting for a spot and I am one of them. I want to show them what I can do.'

A's starter Dana Eveland retired all six batters he faced and Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect third.

``My idea of spring training is to get in and out of there,' said Eveland, who threw 13 pitches. ``I want to save my bullets. It's a long spring and it was nice to get the first outing out of the way. A lot of groundballs, a lot of quick outs. I liked the pace of the game.'

Brewers starter Manny Parra gave up a second-inning single to Jason Giambi in two efficient innings. Mark DiFelice, who will play for Italy in the World Baseball Classic, allowed one hit in two innings and Omar Aguilar pitched a scoreless fifth.

``I thought Parra threw pretty good,' Brewer's manager Ken Macha said. ``He was a little up in the first inning. He's got a little movement on his fastball that can get him some grounders.'

Brewers' catcher Angel Salome hit a two-run home run in the ninth, while Craig Counsell and Scott Thorman each had two hits. Logan Schafer, Vinny Rottino, Thorman and Alcides Escobar also drove in runs.

Rajai Davis, Matt Holliday, Ben Copeland, Aaron Cunningham and Tagg Bozied each drove in a run for the A's. Adrian Cardenas had two hits.

Notes: The Brewers signed C Mike Rivera and RHP Carlos Villanueva to one-year contracts. ... Former SS Bert Campaneris, a five-time all-star for the A's, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. ... Brewers' RHP Yovani Gallardo celebrated his 23rd birthday. ... A's manager Bob Geren confirmed that 2B Mark Ellis will DH before he plays in the field, and that could be as early as next week. ... 1B Daric Barton (recovering from hip surgery) made his spring debut with a pinch-hit groundout in the eighth inning. ... RHP Justin Duchscherer (sore elbow) threw off the mound on Thursday, and will be given two days off. ... Eveland is using soft contact lens when he pitches.
