DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Rockies are looking for some momentum. Aaron Cook is just looking for a win.

Cook threw four solid innings before running into trouble in the fifth and came away with another loss in Milwaukee's 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

Jason Giambi had two hits, including a homer, and Seth Smith also had two hits for Colorado.

``I felt alright but I'm tired of losing, `` Cook said. ``We're at a point were we have to win.'

Cook (0-5) started the year on the disabled list and didn't make his first start until June 8 at San Diego. Coming off a rough start in Atlanta 10 days ago he kept the Rockies in the game but is still looking for his first win since Sept. 8.

``Cookie threw great for us, we let him down defensively,' Giambi said.

Cook was pitching well until the fifth when Milwaukee took the lead for good. Prince Fielder drew a one-out walk, Rickie Weeks singled and George Kottaras followed with a double to left to score Fielder. Weeks was thrown out at home on the play, allowing Kottaras to advance to third.

McGehee knocked in Kottaras with a single and came home on Wilson's double to make it 3-1.

Matt Belisle relieved Cook and got the final out of the inning.

``I got three pitches up in the zone in the fifth inning and those were the only bad ones that I made,' Cook said. ``I gave up those two runs and it ended up costing us the game.'

Cook allowed three runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked three in 4 2-3 innings.

The Rockies missed an opportunity to take three out of four from Milwaukee and gain ground on NL West-leading San Francisco. Colorado won the first two games of the series against a team that had not won consecutive road games in six weeks.

``It's unbelievable,' Milwaukee closer John Axford said. ``Things weren't looking too great in the first two games and it's awesome to come out of here with a split.'

The Rockies fell behind 4-1 Sunday before nearly stealing the game in the ninth.

Jonathan Herrera reached on an error by shortstop Josh Wilson and scored on Ty Wigginton's double to right to make it 4-3. Carlos Gonzalez grounded out to third for the first out, pinch-hitter Mark Ellis struck out looking and Giambi followed with a walk.

Troy Tulowitzki, the Rockies' lone All-Star, struck out on three pitches to end the game.

``In the ninth, we have a runner at second base trailing by one, and nothing happened beyond that,' manager Jim Tracy said. ``Up to this point that's been the story of our season. Unfortunately, we can't come up with those hits. We were a couple of at bats and a couple of pitches away from winning four games in this series.'

The Rockies had an opportunity to do damage in the sixth. Giambi's 10th homer, into the third deck in right field off Brewers starter Shaun Marcum, made it 4-2. Marcum went to 2-0 on Tulowitzki when a Brewers' trainer and manager Ron Roenicke came to the mound to talk with Marcum. Marcum threw a few warmup pitches before being replaced by reliever LaTroy Hawkins because of a strained neck.

Hawkins completed the walk to Tulowitzki, and the Rockies had runners at the corners before Herrera grounded out to end the threat.

``We're gonna take off. We're right there. We just can't seem to get over the top,' Giambi said. ``We're in every game. We're not getting blown out, just unfortunate we're not getting that big hit or big pitch to give us the win.'

NOTES: Giambi's homer was the second one hit into the third deck at Coors Field this season. ... The Rockies committed three errors, two by third baseman Ian Stewart.
