Recap: Brewers , White Sox

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Dave Bush is unsure what his coaches want to see from him this month as he makes his bid for the final spot in the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation.

His outing on Saturday might have helped his cause. The right-hander threw 45 pitches and allowed a run and three hits in four innings, helping the Brewers defeat the Chicago White Sox 7-2 in a split-squad game for both teams. Bush even threw in the bullpen after leaving the game, just to make sure he got all of his work in for the day.

Bush took a hard grounder off his right calf in the fourth inning, but said it's only a bruise.

``I get hit a lot, mostly because I'm not in particularly good fielding position when I finish,' Bush said. ``I feel good, which is the best thing. I incorporated all my pitches right off the bat, so it's just a matter of starting to use them more and more.'

White Sox starter Gavin Floyd matched Bush. He was effective in his four-inning, five-strikeout effort, and gave up his first and only run of the spring in the third inning, a solo home run by George Kottaras.

Floyd struck out three in two scoreless innings on March 8, and before that tossed two scoreless innings in a ``B' game.

``Just trying to learn from each start, trying to improve and get ready for the season,' Floyd said. ``It was one of those days where I felt pretty good with everything.'

For the Brewers, Adam Stern tripled in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

The Brewers scored four runs in the eighth off White Sox reliever Daniel Cabrera, who continues to struggle this spring. Cabrera, who has played with Baltimore and Washington, is a non-roster invitee for Chicago. He has allowed seven earned runs in three one-inning appearances, and his ERA is up to 21.00.

Notes: Chicago White Sox outfielder Jared Mitchell is scheduled for surgery Tuesday to repair the torn tendon on the inside of his left ankle that he suffered making a difficult catch Friday afternoon in a game. Mitchell will be evaluated Monday and have his surgery done in Scottsdale, Ariz. The club expects to know more about the timetable for his recovery after the surgery. ... White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he's a little worried about closer Bobby Jenks on Friday after Jenks' second straight ineffective performance. Jenks allowed five runs and four hits in two-thirds of an inning and has given up seven earned runs in his two spring outings. ``Hopefully Bobby turns it around right away,' Guillen said, expressing concern over the health of the right calf Jenks strained late last season.
