GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Carlos Zambrano struggled with his control, and the fielding was a bit shaky behind him. And he kept his cool throughout.

That may be a little more difficult to do in his next start.

Zambrano allowed four runs and walked five over five innings in the Chicago Cubs' 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Monday. But the right-hander, who has struggled with his emotions at times in the past, stayed calm when he surrendered a few bloop hits and shortstop Starlin Castro and second baseman Darwin Barney misplayed a couple balls.

``This is spring training, if it was in league play,' Zambrano said, catching himself before saying more. ``I won't worry about what happens with others. There's nothing I can do when people don't execute. We have good coaches that can take care of that. My job is to pitch.'

Zambrano went 8-0 with a 1.41 ERA in his final 11 outings in 2010 following a verbal altercation with former teammate Derrek Lee that led to the right-hander being sent to counseling.

One of the Indians' runs was unearned, and Zambrano also allowed four hits and struck out two.

``My ball was moving,' he said. ``At the same time, I made pitches when I had to.'

Zambrano said he is eager for the season to start, even though he won't start on opening day for the first time in six years.

``I felt good,' he said. ``The most important thing is my arm is sound, my body feels good. Let's get it on.'

Cleveland closer Chris Perez developed an upset stomach and had to leave with two out in the ninth. He was charged with two runs and one hit.

``His food came up on him,' manager Manny Acta said.

Rookie Vinnie Pestano, who was told Monday morning he had earned a roster spot, came on and hit Koyie Hill with a pitch before striking out Reed Johnson to end the game.

Carlos Carrasco allowed one run and three hits in six innings for Cleveland. He struck out five and walked none.

Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore, recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee, was caught trying to steal second in the third inning, but was successful in the sixth when he got a big jump and the Cubs didn't cover second.

Carlos Pena hit his third spring homer for Chicago, and also doubled in a run.

NOTES: Acta also told INF Adam Everett, C Lou Marson and RHPs Frank Herrmann and Justin Germano they had made the club. ... Herrmann and Germano each worked a scoreless inning. Herrmann has a 1.69 ERA, and Germano has not allowed a run in nine innings over eight outings. ... Cubs LHP John Grabow worked a scoreless inning. It was his sixth straight scoreless outing as he continues to rehab from a left knee injury. ... OF Bo Greenwell, son of former Red Sox All-Star Mike Greenwell, got a pinch-hit single. The younger Greenwell is a Class A player in the Indians farm system.
