LOS ANGELES (AP) - After taking the first two games of the series by two runs or fewer, the Arizona Diamondbacks ended up on the losing side of another close one with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks outscored the Dodgers 6-3 in the first two games, but lost 2-1 on Saturday night to snap their eight-game winning streak against Los Angeles and end a six-game road winning streak.

``We haven't been swinging the bats, so we were fortunate to win the first two games without a lot of runs,' manager Kirk Gibson said. ``We only made a couple of mistakes, but they come at a premium when you're in a one-run game.'

Josh Beckett pitched 6 2/3 strong innings for his first victory since being traded to the Dodgers and Andre Ethier hit a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning for the Dodgers.

Beckett allowed one run and six hits, struck out nine and walked one to end a career-high five-game losing streak that began on July 20, when he was still with Boston. He had lost his first start since being traded to the Dodgers on Aug. 25, a 4-1 defeat at Colorado last Monday.

Brandon League pitched the ninth to earn his first save since joining the Dodgers on July 30.

The Dodgers have dropped five of eight since the blockbuster trade that brought them Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto among eight players.

Ethier's 15th homer off Matt Albers (0-1) with two outs in the sixth put the Dodgers ahead for good. Albers allowed one run and one hit in one inning, struck out two and walked one.

``It was tough,' Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero said. ``Beckett did a good job, make a lot of good pitches and kept us off the bases.'

The Dodgers tried to add a run in the eighth, but Justin Upton caught Matt Kemp's fly ball in right field and his throw to the plate was on the mark. Montero held on to the ball after Shane Victorino plowed him over and knocked his mask off in a hard collision. Victorino had walked, stole second and continued to third on Montero's throwing error.

``As soon as the ball came into my glove, it was like, boom,' Montero said. ``I knew he was going to (collide with him), but I didn't think he was going to hit me that hard. I got a little bit dizzy at the moment.'

The Diamondbacks tied the game 1-1 in the third on Upton's homer that traveled an estimated 432 feet over the back wall in the Dodgers' left field bullpen.

Hanley Ramirez put the Dodgers ahead 1-0 in the second with his 23rd homer and 83rd RBI off Arizona starter Tyler Skaggs, who at 21 is the youngest pitcher in the majors.

``Early on he was having a little bit of trouble trying to find the strike zone, but he settled in,' Montero said. ``Once he picked up the pace, everything changed; his secondary stuff was better and his fastball command was better. There was a lot of emotion in him, going back to his hometown, but he did a heck of a job and made good pitches when he needed to.'

Skaggs, a left-hander from Santa Monica, gave up one run and five hits in five innings, struck out three and walked one in his third major league start and first on the road.

``I took him out because he had 91 pitches after five and a 31-pitch second inning,' Gibson said. ``But we believe he's going to have a nice long career, so I didn't want to take any chances. He was pitching at home at Dodger Stadium in his third major league start, and he kept his composure very well.'

Skaggs said he was more of an Angels fan growing up.

``I came to a lot of games here,' he said. ``Unfortunately, I didn't have the greatest seats.'
