PHOENIX (AP) -Clayton Kershaw is working on getting ready for the season. Pitching on opening day would be a bonus.

Kershaw tossed five innings in his longest outing of the spring, helping a Los Angeles Dodgers split-squad beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Monday.

The 22-year-old left-hander gave up three runs, one earned, and two hits. He struck out six and walked three.

``Opening Day, if it happens, would be great,' Kershaw said. ``If not, I will pitch one of those first four days. I'm not too worried about it.'

Kershaw, making this third appearance and second start, was touched for three runs in the first, but only one was earned. A throwing error by third baseman Nick Green on a possible double-play ball extended the inning.

He settled down after that and was pretty tough on a lineup that included several Brewers regulars.

``Today was good,' Kershaw said. ``I got in a little trouble but the rest of the game I minimized the damage a little bit. It was good to get into that type of situation and get out of it.'

Doug Davis went 4 2-3 innings for the Brewers, yielding three runs and six hits. He struck out three and walked three.

Milwaukee managed just six hits against Kershaw and Russ Ortiz, who allowed one run in four innings.

``At this particular point and time, we have a lot of guys not swinging the bat well,' Brewers manager Ken Macha said. ``It's time to get it zoned in. Kershaw was out there, and he is one of the best pitchers in the league so it was semi-understandable.'

Jamey Carroll had three hits and scored two runs for the Dodgers.

NOTES: Chris Narveson, a candidate for a spot in the Milwaukee rotation, pitched in a B game against a Texas lineup featuring Josh Hamilton. The left-hander went five innings, allowing one earned run and three hits. ... The Brewers made several moves before the game. They traded C Matt Treanor to Texas for INF Ray Olmedo. RHP Josh Butler and INF Adam Heether were optioned to Triple-A Nashville, and OF Trent Oeltjen was returned to minor league camp. INF Taylor Green was called up to the major league camp. ... RHP LaTroy Hawkins appears to be clear of his shoulder stiffness. He threw a bullpen session for the second time in three days and is scheduled to pitch in a camp game on Wednesday, the Brewers' lone day off of the spring.
