SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Not long after his earliest exit in nearly four years, Matt Cain sat in the Giants' dugout and stared blankly at the floor.

An already trying season for San Francisco's ace reached a new low - and so did Cain's command in another frustrating outing.

The three-time All-Star allowed eight runs in just 2 1-3 innings and the Giants fell 10-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, the fourth time this season that Cain has been tagged for at least seven runs.

``I got ahead of guys and then didn't finish them off,' Cain said. ``And at times I got behind guys and made bad pitches to (them) too.'

Before getting shelled in the first game of San Francisco's homestand, Cain (5-5) had allowed just seven runs over his previous five outings. He had also won his last five decisions against Los Angeles - a trend that was in jeopardy almost from the beginning.

Cain retired the side in order in the first inning then issued a leadoff walk to Hanley Ramirez in the second. Andre Ethier doubled and Matt Kemp walked to load the bases before A.J. Ellis flew out to short right.

Juan Uribe followed with a two-run double then later added a three-run triple as part of the Dodgers six-run third inning when they knocked Cain out of the game.

``He just got out of sync and then couldn't get back on track,' Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ``It happens. He's been throwing the ball so well, too, but tonight he was off. There's not a lot you can do as a pitcher when you get out of sync like that.'

The Giants offense was equally bad.

San Francisco scored its first run on Hunter Pence's fielder's choice in the first inning, but got little else going against Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Tony Abreu also drove in a run with a two-out RBI single off reliever Jose Dominguez, ending an 0-for-20 skid by the Giants with runners in scoring position.

It marked the 11th time in 14 games that San Francisco has been held to two runs or fewer.

``We're getting tested,' Bochy said. ``Hopefully you get stronger when you're tested. You hate to see what's going on. It's a good group. It's not like they're quitting. They're probably trying a little too hard.'

San Francisco also lost its center fielder when Andres Torres departed with a right calf strain. He's listed as day-to-day for the defending World Series champs, who have dropped four straight and 12 of 14.

Pence had a run-scoring fielder's choice in the first to give the Giants a short-lived lead. Uribe's two-run double in the second put the Dodgers ahead for good before Los Angeles broke it open in the third. Ramirez singled in Yasiel Puig and A.J. Ellis drove in Adrian Gonzalez with a base hit in the big inning.

Uribe's fifth homer matched his career high of seven RBIs, the most in a game for the Dodgers since James Loney drove in nine in 2006.

The Dodgers won for the 11th time in 13 games. Ramirez had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, and Ryu pitched into the seventh inning in his first win since May 28.

Ryu (7-3) allowed two runs and four hits over 6 2-3 innings. The left-hander was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in his previous five outings.

``When things aren't going right everybody wants to be that guy that gets something going and get things started in the right direction,' Cain said. ``We just need to find a way to get things going in the right way again.'

NOTES: The Giants recalled OF Cole Gillespie from Triple-A Fresno, sent OF Juan Perez to the minors and moved OF Angel Pagan to the 60-day disabled list. ... The Giants scored a first-inning run for the first time since June 18. ... San Francisco RHP Chad Gaudin (2-1, 2.60 ERA) will come off the disabled list to start Sunday's game. ... LHP Madison Bumgarner (8-5, 3.08 ERA) starts Saturday's game for the Giants. He's 6-3 in 10 games against the Dodgers. RHP Stephen Fife (3-2, 2.83) gets the start for L. A. He's won his last two starts and beat the Giants in San Francisco last July.
