SAN DIEGO (AP) - When Tyson Ross pitches, his San Diego Padres teammates can't seem to get the offense going.

That was the case again Saturday night. Ross did his job, but got no support.

Ross was the hard-luck loser when the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Padres 4-2.

Ross delivered a solid seven-inning effort in his first start since walking seven in a loss at Seattle. He allowed three runs, two earned, and six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

The Padres failed to get him a run for the fourth straight outing. In five of Ross' last seven starts, the Padres have produced nothing offensively.

'I don't worry about that because I have no control over it,' he said. 'I just try to concentrate on my end and give us a chance to win.'

That was tough against Beckett (5-4), in his first start against San Diego this year. Beckett allowed four hits and two walks. No Padres player reached second base, and San Diego never had more than one runner on base at a time against Beckett.

Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 21st save in 24 chances, one night after allowing three runs for the loss.

'I felt pretty good,' Ross said. 'A couple of innings there they got the leadoff man on, and that put me in some tough situations. But I felt good, and definitely cut down on the walks from the last outing. I walked away from that as a positive.'

Ross said the difference was in his head.

'Really just focus. That's all it boils down to,' he said. 'You have an outing like that, and I knew I just had to throw strikes tonight.'

The Padres avoided their 12th shutout when Tommy Medica singled in Cameron Maybin in the eighth inning. San Diego got within 4-2 when Rene Rivera followed with an RBI single.

But Jake Goebbert grounded out with the tying runs on base.

San Diego was trying to extend its winning streak to a season-high four games.

Beckett kept the Padres baffled with an assortment of offspeed pitches. He improved to 6-2 in nine career starts against him.

'He's got a great curveball,' Padres catcher Rene Rivera said. 'He can throw it in any count, any situation. He was moving the ball well and he kept us off-balance.'

The Dodgers took a 4-0 edge in the eighth inning on Adrian Gonzalez's run-scoring single.

Ramirez put the Dodgers ahead 3-0 in the fifth inning. He lined a single to left to extend his hitting streak to nine games and score Justin Turner. With runners on the corners, Ross retired Yasiel Puig on a grounder to shortstop.

The Dodgers broke the scoreless tie in the third on Dee Gordon's single, which scored Drew Butera after he opened the inning with a single. Gordon then stole his 39th base and took third on second baseman Jace Peterson's error.

Matt Kemp's sacrifice fly scored Gordon to give the Dodgers had a 2-0 lead. His hitting streak reached nine games when he singled in the sixth.

But Ross never got rocked.

'They nicked him for two earned runs but they didn't really hit him hard,' Black said. 'They didn't whack it all over the park. He threw well.'

NOTES: Puig was in the starting lineup after leaving Friday's game with a strained left hip muscle. ... INF Juan Uribe (strained right hamstring) could rejoin the team for Sunday's series finale. ... Padres 3B Chase Headley (back) is expected to avoid the DL. With Headley sidelined, Rivera is taking ground balls at third. ... Dodgers LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-3, 3.13) faces Padres LHP Eric Stults (2-9, 5.76) on Sunday.
