SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -Jason Schmidt was finally back on the mound for the Dodgers. Andruw Jones did something he rarely did in his only season with Los Angeles.

Schmidt, the $47 million pitcher who has had two shoulder operations since his last start in June 2007, threw two innings in Los Angeles' 13-7 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday.

Schmidt got through the first in 12 pitches. After a lengthy break while the Dodgers scored seven runs off Kevin Millwood, Schmidt walked two before Taylor Teagarden homered in the second.

``I came out of it in one piece, so I'm pretty happy about that,' said Schmidt, who was charged with three runs and two hits. ``My arm feels good. Two days after usually tells the story. That's what I'll be looking forward to. I think I should come out of it OK.'

Jones hit one of Texas' three home runs off Claudio Vargas, who could be the No. 5 starter if Schmidt isn't ready for the season.

In an injury-plagued 2008 season with the Dodgers, after signing a $36.2 million, two-year deal, Jones hit a career-worst .158 with only three homers in 75 games. Los Angeles released him in January still owing him about $22 million, much of that deferred over the next six years.

Dodgers fans booed when he came to the plate Monday.

``I'm used to that already,' Jones said.

Texas trailed 10-3 before Jones hit a two-run drive in the third, his first homer and RBIs in his 10 spring games. He is 5-for-11 with two walks the past four games.

``The last four games, every ball that I hit, I hit them solid,' said Jones, who is in Rangers camp on a non-roster deal. ``It's coming.'

Millwood threw five shutout innings over his first two starts, but gave up 10 runs and 12 hits in three innings. He also got hit on both hands by batted balls, though he said he was fine after the game.

``Other than the results, I think everything went well,' Millwood said. ``It was one of those days, nothing I can do about it.'

Since signing his three-year contract with the Dodgers, Schmidt has gone 1-4 in six starts - the last on June 16, 2007.

Schmidt went on three rehabilitation assignments last year before having the second surgery on his right shoulder in September. He had been limited to an intrasquad and a `B' game in spring training before facing Texas.

``I thought he got a little tired at the end where he was trying to overthrow it,' manager Joe Torre said. ``I was surprised how good his slider was. He had to feel good about that. That was something that a week ago we didn't expect to be in that situation at this point. That was a real plus.'

Brandon Boggs and Hank Blalock hit back-to-back homers in the fifth off Vargas.

Julio Castro went 3-for-5 for the Dodgers with a solo homer off Kris Benson. Hector Luna added a two-run homer in the eighth.

Notes: Torre said Manny Ramirez will go through some baserunning drills in the next couple of days and is on schedule to make his spring debut Thursday. ... OF Xavier Paul went 3-for-5, scored three runs and leads the Dodgers with 13 hits this spring. ... The last time the Rangers and Dodgers had played a spring training game was March 28, 1986, in Pompano Beach, Fla. ... Dodgers LHP Hong-Chih Kuo faced hitters for the first time and breezed through an inning in a morning ``B' game against the White Sox, throwing eight of his 12 pitches for strikes. Kuo sat out the NLDS series against Chicago due to elbow problems. ``I'm getting stronger and I'm getting close,' he said. Torre said Kuo would make his first Cactus League appearance Thursday in an exhibition game against Korea's WBC team.
