GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Philip Humber hopes to feel this good at the end of spring training.
The Chicago White Sox pitcher got into a good rhythm and threw more of his offspeed pitches, allowing two runs in three innings in a 10-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night in a split-squad game at Camelback Ranch. He struck out three and allowed three hits, including a solo home run by Juan Rivera.
Tyler Flowers of the White Sox and the Dodgers' Jerry Hairston Jr. and Cory Sullivan also homered. Sullivan hit a grand slam to cap a five-run ninth inning.
Humber, expected to pitch in the back of Chicago's rotation, was happy with his results in his second spring start. He went 9-9 with a 3.75 ERA in 2011 in his first full major-league season.
``If I can feel just like I feel right now. Honestly, I feel really strong,' Humber said. ``I feel like I'm getting good downhill plane on the ball. I feel like I'm behind everything. I'm just going to stay in the process, and I know what I need to do to prepare between starts.'
For the Dodgers, starting pitcher Chad Billingsley didn't last through his scheduled three innings. He allowed three runs and six hits in 2 1-3 innings. He struck out three and walked one. He exited with one out and runners on second and third in the third inning. He finished last season 11-11 with a 4.21 ERA.
``I struggled a little bit early, just finding my rhythm,' said Billingsley, slated to be the Dodgers' No. 2 starter. ``Overall, I was pretty happy. My curveball was sharp, and I threw some good changeups.
``As far as my fastball, it wasn't consistent, but it was only my second time out so you can't make too much out of it. It was missing a little bit down and a little bit off the plate, but that will come with more times off the mound.'
Flowers, the White Sox's backup catcher, hit a three-run home run in the third inning off Josh Lindblom after Billingsley exited. The Dodgers' Kenley Jansen struck out one and gave up a hit in a scoreless inning. He was cleared for activity after experiencing rapid heartbeats Thursday.
Chicago's Brent Morel went 3 for 4. Alejandro De Aza, Gordon Beckham and Alexei Ramirez each had two hits.
Hairston hit his first home run of the spring, connecting off Jhan Marinez.
The Dodgers scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth. Sullivan hit a grand slam off Simon Castro. The Dodgers tied it at 6 in the top of the inning when Castro threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
Notes: Earlier in the day, the Dodgers tied the Seattle Mariners 5-5 in Peoria, and the White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 at Camelback Ranch. ... White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez committed a throwing error in the fourth inning, as the Dodgers scored to tie it at 4. After they finished with six hits in their earlier game Saturday, the White Sox had 17 hits in the night game. ... A bat flew out the White Sox's Ray Olmedo's hands during the eighth inning and landed behind the Dodgers' dugout, but didn't injure any fans. After losing his bat on another swing, he hit an RBI ground-rule double to give Chicago a 6-5 lead.
