TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -Eric Byrnes appears to be fully recovered from the hamstring problems that sidelined him for much of last season - at least at the plate.

Byrnes had two more hits Tuesday for the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 7-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The Diamondback outfielder had singles in his first two at_bats, giving him five straight hits after going 0-for-3 in his first game since being sidelined June 30 because of a hamstring injury.

``To string together five in a row, I am not going to complain about that, especially when they all were hit pretty solidly,' Byrnes said.

Byrnes went hitless in his spring debut March 20, was 3-for-3 in his second outing before getting a run-scoring single in the first inning against the Giants. He added another hit in the third, and had a stolen base.

``I feel like I am fighting for playing time. Any time I go out there, that is my mentality,' Byrnes said.

Byrnes went from hitting .286 with 50 stolen bases in 2007 to four steals and a .209 average a year ago.

He struck out in his last at bat, and misjudged a fly ball to center field that allowed three runs to score. He said there is still work to be done, but he is not blaming the hamstring.

San Francisco starting pitcher Matt Cain, after being roughed up his two previous starts, settled in after a tough first inning.

The right-hander gave up a lead off double to Felipe Lopez and an RBI single to Byrnes before getting out of trouble.

``Everything felt fine. I definitely want to get deeper in the game. I wanted to try to stay in there as long as possible,' Cain said.

Cain got into a bases loaded jam in the fourth, but allowed a sacrifice fly and struck out Byrnes and Conor Jackson to end the inning.

Cain allowed two runs and seven hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked two. He allowed a combined nine runs and 12 hits in his last two outings.

Arizona starter Doug Davis didn't encounter the biceps tightness that kept him out of a start a couple of weeks ago, but he did have a problem with his location.

The lefty was behind in the counts several times while going 2 2-3 innings and giving up four runs - one earned - and five hits.

Nate Schierholtz hit a towering homer off Davis in the third for his second homer of the spring.

San Francisco's Emmanuel Buriss went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple. Mark Reynolds went 2-for-3 for Arizona.
