GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Cleveland manager Manny Acta felt sorry for the pitchers on Monday.

Alex Rios of the White Sox and Luis Valbuena of the Indians each homered twice and drove in five runs as Cleveland and a Chicago split-squad played to a 16-16 tie.

The game was called after nine innings. Winds gusted up to 25 mph at times in a slugfest that included 21 runs and 22 hits through the first four innings.

``Those first three innings were just excruciating because of the wind,' Acta said. ``It was a tough day to be out there for any type of pitcher unless you're an overpowering stuff type of guy who is going to miss bats.'

Rios hit a two-run shot in the first and a three-run drive off Mitch Talbot in Chicago's seven-run second, helping the White Sox to a 9-6 lead.

Mark Teahen had two hits and three RBIs for Chicago, which finished with 19 hits. Stefan Gartrell had a two-run homer and Dayan Viciedo added three hits.

Valbuena had a two-run homer in the second and a tying three-run shot in the eighth that made it 14-all. Nick Weglarz also hit a two-run homer for Cleveland.

In addition to the 32 runs, the Indians and White Sox combined for 39 hits, 16 for extra bases, 10 walks, six errors and four wild pitches. The only scoreless inning was the fifth, when each team went down in order.

Lucas Harrell was roughed up in his second spring appearance for the White Sox, allowing six runs and eight hits in 1 2-3 innings.

Talbot, who also recorded five outs, was charged with nine runs and six hits.

NOTES: The White Sox had just one homer in their first seven spring games. They hit six in their split-squad games Monday. ... Chicago RHP Brandon Hynick struck out the side in the fifth. ... Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera was hit by a pitch in the second inning and again in the third. ... White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was at the team's other split-squad game in Tucson against the Arizona Diamondbacks, a charity game honoring Christina-Taylor Green, the youngest victim of the January shootings in Arizona.
