PHOENIX (AP) - Yovani Gallardo is ready, so let the Milwaukee Brewers' season begin.

Gallardo struck out nine over five scoreless innings in his final start before opening day and the Brewers beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 in 10 innings Saturday.

The All-Star righty gave up four hits and walked one. He will start Thursday at Cincinnati.

``I'm anxious, excited, whatever you want to call it,' Gallardo said. ``Nervous. I think everybody gets nervous. The next five days are going to go by very quick.'

Gallardo went 2-0 in five starts this spring with a 1.96 ERA over 18 1-3 innings.

Gallardo gave up a double to Jack Wilson to start the game, but struck out three to get out of the first inning.

``I felt good. You want to treat that last one like the regular season,' Gallardo said. ``I toned down the pitch count and I was able to get out if it after I gave up that double.'

Milwaukee first-year manager Ron Roenicke liked what he saw from Gallardo. He also was encouraged by the efforts of relievers Takashi Saito, John Axford and Brandon Kintzler, who each threw a shutout inning.

Axford, the closer who had 24 saves as a rookie in 2010, ``is throwing the ball great.'

Craig Counsell made up for two errors at third base by hitting a sacrifice fly to win it in the 10th. Counsell's fly ball to shallow left-center scored Brandon Boggs, who led off the inning with a walk.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the seventh when Counsell misplayed a grounder by Brendan Ryan. The Brewers tied it in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Jeremy Reed.

Mariners starter Michael Pineda, trying to land the final spot in the rotation, gave up two hits in six shutout innings. He walked two and struck out seven.

NOTES: The Brewers placed pitchers Zack Greinke, Manny Parra and LaTroy Hawkins on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22. Pitcher Mark DiFelice and infielder Edwin Maysonet will be with the big club through the end of camp on Wednesday, then will be reassigned to the minor league camp. ... Brewers 3B Casey McGehee, hit on the knee by a pitch on Thursday, sat out his second straight game. His availability Sunday against the White Sox will be decided shortly before gametime. ... Seattle INF Josh Wilson turned 30. ... AL Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez will throw in a minor league intrasquad game on Sunday. He will throw 90-95 pitches.
