SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -Jarrod Washburn had his longest and best outing of spring training for the Seattle Mariners.

Washburn struck out five in 5 2-3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, as the Mariners defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-3 Wednesday night.

Rookie Mike Wilson went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and scored three runs. Yuniesky Betancourt also homered for the Mariners, who have 22 home runs in 19 games.

Washburn (2-2), a 34-year-old left-hander, threw 81 pitches before being replaced by Miguel Batista with two out in the sixth.

``For the most part I was pleased,' Washburn said. ``I fell behind a couple of guys and got hurt, but for the most part everything was working. My off-speed pitches were sharp and I was throwing strikes, letting the defense work behind me.

``I feel good physically and working up toward getting 100 pitches already. The biggest thing is just stay healthy and feel strong going into the regular season. I'm moving in the right direction.'

Washburn missed the final month of last season with a pulled abdominal muscle.

``That's all healed up over the offseason, so I'm ready to go,' Washburn said.

Mark Teahen and Mike Jacobs homered off Washburn for the only runs he allowed.

``They weren't cheap ones,' Washburn said.

Teahen, who is playing second after starting in the outfield the past two years, has four home runs in his past three games and is hitting .462.

``He's swinging a hot bat and maybe arguably had his best game at second base,' Royals manager Trey Hillman said. ``He turned a double play, took charge on a pop up. I'm looking for everything that makes him look like a second baseman.'

Royals starter Zack Greinke gave up six runs on 11 hits, including two homers, in five innings.

``Zack didn't locate very well,' Hillman said. ``He fell in patterns where he was throwing strikes, but they weren't quality strikes especially with the contact.'

After going 2-0 in his first three starts, Greinke has allowed 11 runs on 19 hits, including four home runs, in eight innings in losing his past two starts.

Notes: Royals clean-up hitter RF Jose Guillen struck out in all three of his at_bats and stranded two runners in scoring position. ... Mariners 3B Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4, raising his average to .348.
