JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -Sean West is hoping to duplicate Chris Volstad's rapid rise through the Florida Marlins' minor league system.

He got off to a good start Saturday.

West worked two solid innings in his first spring outing to lead the Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The 6-foot-8 left-hander allowed an unearned run and three hits, struck out two and walked one.

``He looked very good,' Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. ``His ball had some life in the strike zone and he threw strikes.'

Robert Andino homered in the 10th inning to give Florida its second victory of the spring.

Volstad started last season in Double-A but was called up in July and went 6-4 with a 2.88 ERA in 15 games, 14 starts. Volstad, a 6-foot-8 right-hander, and West occasionally exchange tips about mechanics and how to take advantage of their size on the mound.

``Sometimes they say the ball's coming above the hitter's eye, which is good,' Volstad said. ``The harder it is for them to see the better it is for me (and Sean).'

West threw 23 of his 35 pitches for strikes and gave up one extra-base hit, a wind-aided double to Scott Moore in the first inning.

``I felt confident with all of my pitches and felt very comfortable,' West said. ``My main objective today was just to attack hitters and throw my best stuff at them and see what they can do with it. I feel like I can go nine right now, but obviously I'm not. Hopefully, next time they push me up to three or four innings just to see what happens.'

Brad Bergesen gave up two runs and five hits in four innings for Baltimore. He struck out four and walked one.

``The guy has great tempo, and he keeps attacking the hitters,' Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. ``He probably didn't have his best stuff. There were a lot of pitches sneaking out of the zone. He knows something about damage control - about keeping you in the game. I thought he did well. I thought he did very well.'

Notes: Marlins RHP Scott Proctor, recovering from elbow surgery, was given the day off. He played catch Thursday and Friday for the first time since tweaking the elbow in Monday?s intrasquad game. Proctor is scheduled to see the team doctor Sunday, but he said he feels fine, and Gonzalez indicated he could get in a bullpen session sometime next week. Gonzalez managed a ``B' game in the morning on the back fields before heading back over to the main field.
