SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona's Ian Kennedy and San Diego's Tim Stauffer each got back on track Friday after rough spring debuts.

Kennedy and Stauffer tossed three scoreless innings apiece, and Cory Luebke also worked three nice innings in San Diego's 3-2 win.

Kennedy, Arizona's No. 3 starter, allowed two hits, struck out four and walked none. The right-hander yielded two runs and four hits in his spring debut against Colorado.

``I was happy with my rhythm and my tempo today,' Kennedy said. ``I wasn't happy with that last time.'

Kennedy praised pitching coach Charles Nagy for his quick transformation.

``I slowed down after I got some advice from him,' Kennedy said. ``My fastball and my command were good.'

Stauffer became San Diego's first pitcher to record nine outs this spring. The projected No. 4 starter allowed one hit, struck out two and walked none. The righty was roughed up for five runs over 1 2-3 innings against Seattle in his first spring outing.

``I felt comfortable today,' Stauffer said. ``I felt sharper than I did last time. I executed my pitches better. I kept the ball over the plate. I mixed up my pitches.

``I was trying to work on my pitch strength, my arm strength. It's nice to know you're building up for a starting role.'

Stauffer was predominantly a starter in the minors last year before being called up by San Diego, where he went 6-5 with a sparkling 1.85 ERA in seven starts and 25 relief appearances.

Luebke, bidding for the fifth spot in the rotation, followed Stauffer to the mound and was just as effective. He also pitched shutout ball, yielding two hits and one walk.

Luebke's future for this season hasn't been determined.

``I'll just go out there and throw,' he said, ``and control the things I can control. We have a good staff. If I can sneak in there, great. If not, I'll just go to the minors and keep on pitching.'

Mike Hampton also pitched a scoreless inning for Arizona before Juan Gutierrez was tagged for all three Padres runs in the fifth. Aaron Cunningham had an RBI double and Eric Patterson added a run-scoring single.

``I just didn't have my location,' Gutierrez said. ``We have a lot of spring training left and I know everything will come back.'

Colin Cowgill hit a two-run double for the Diamondbacks in the eighth.
