SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Francisco Peguero celebrated his first major league hit, Yusmeiro Petit celebrated his first start in three years and the San Francisco regulars were able to relax a day after their own celebration.

Yonder Alonso's two-run single in the seventh inning snapped a tie and helped the San Diego Padres beat the Giants 6-4 on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Giants clinched the NL West Division crown.

``We're going to go out and try to win the game,' Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ``We have guys who need a break and we have guys who need to play. It's good to be in position to be able to do so.'

The Giants did get the potential winning run to the plate in the ninth against closer Huston Street before Ryan Theriot lined out to center field to end it.

Xavier Nady, who had two hits, Eli Whiteside, Emmanuel Burriss and Buster Posey each drove in runs.

``You have to try and stay sharp,' Theriot said. ``It was good to get some at bats, and at bats in pressure situations. At the same time, you want to make sure the guys who are super hot stay super hot. We want to get everybody going and ready.'

Peguero beat out an infield single in the fourth for his first major-league hit. He later singled sharply up the middle.

``I was very happy to get my first hit after so many at bats,' Peguero said. ``I feel grateful for the fans to cheer me too. It keeps me motivated.'

Petit made his first start since September of 2009, when he was with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out one.

``It's been three long years for me,' Petit said. ``But I always had the confidence I could make it back.'

Petit was told of his start while the Giants were celebrating their division title.

``It was a surprise to me,' he said. ``They told me to get ready to pitch. I hope I get another chance to start.'

Bochy indicated that was a possibility, especially if the Giants tweak their rotation for the playoffs.

``He's got some savvy out there,' Bochy said. ``That was a good effort by him.'

Street earned his first save since Aug. 10, his 22nd of the season and 200th of his career. His scoreless streak ended at 21 2/3 innings.

``It's a round number but I don't want to finish there,' Street said. ``It means something because I got the ball authenticated and I don't get that every save. There's a certain sense of accomplishment but there's a lot more to get.'

Notes: RHP Tim Lincecum (10-14, 4.91) will start for the Giants when the Arizona Diamondbacks come to town on Tuesday. He was originally scheduled to pitch Sunday. ... Huff has four hits in his last six PH appearances.
