DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -Chase Utley hit his first home run since hip surgery and Chan Ho Park made his latest bid for a rotation spot, helping the Philadelphia Phillies rally past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 on Tuesday.

Utley drove in three runs, two on a homer off closer B.J. Ryan. It was the All-Star second baseman's first long ball since he had hip surgery in November.

Park gave up three runs and four hits in four innings. He struck out seven and walked one. The veteran right-hander is competing with 26-year-old lefty J.A. Happ for the final spot in Philadelphia's rotation.

``It didn't hurt him at all,' manager Charlie Manuel said. ``We need people to get people out. That's what we're looking for.'

Eric Brunlett singled home two runs in the ninth inning, then scored the game-winner on Rich Thompson's single off Brandon League.

Park allowed two runs in the second on Vernon Wells' double, a walk to Scott Rolen, a double steal and Kevin Millar's double to right.

Toronto made it 3-0 in the third on Marco Scutaro's double to right and Wells' wind-blown single that eluded Utley.

Park also could wind up in the bullpen, where he was successful for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

``We've got to keep looking at Chan Ho to see where he pitches best and where he belongs,' Manuel said.

Left-hander David Purcey, third in the Blue Jays' rotation, allowed eight hits in six innings.

``Today was a little bit rough,' he said. ``I couldn't throw my off-speed for a strike at all, just relying on my fastball heavily and the occasional curveball I got over. The defense did a great job today.'

Jayson Werth homered off Purcey leading off the sixth.

``His control was a little off today,' Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. ``You've got to get that breaking ball over to pitch on this level. Otherwise they're just going to sit on your fastball and hit your fastball. Overall, (Purcey) was not too bad.'

Purcey limited the World Series champions to one earned run, facing virtually their entire regular-season starting lineup.

``It's spring training,' he said with a shrug. ``It's early. It means nothing.'

Ryan's ERA ballooned to 10.80. Utley's homer tied it at 4.

Toronto went ahead 6-4 in the eighth on Aaron Mathews' single, Scott Campbell's RBI double and Kyle Phillips' single off winner Gary Majewski.

Notes: Phillies ace Cole Hamels pitched in a minor league game, his first start since experiencing elbow tightness last week. The World Series MVP threw 3 2-3 scoreless innings against Pittsburgh Pirates minor leaguers at Philadelphia's spring training complex in Clearwater. It was his first appearance in a game since receiving an anti-inflammatory shot in his arm last Tuesday. ``It felt good,' Hamels said after his first outing since March 15. ... The Blue Jays returned right-hander Matt Clement, left-hander Brian Burres, catcher Curtis Thigpen and infielders Randy Ruiz and Angel Sanchez to their minor league camp. Clement, 34, who hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing rotator cuff surgery after the 2006 season, said through his agent that he will take a few days before deciding whether to accept the assignment. With Clement's departure and right-hander Scott Richmond all but assured of a place in the rotation, left-handers Brad Mills and Ricky Romero are competing for the remaining spot. Brian Wolfe, who took himself out of a game March 10 with an inflamed right shoulder, will throw Wednesday for the first time since, in the bullpen.
