TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Greg Smith had trouble settling down on the mound in his debut with the Colorado Rockies.

``I was very anxious and very emotional out there,' Smith said after he allowed three runs, three hits and three walks over two innings in the Rockies' 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Smith, one of three players acquired from Oakland in the Matt Holliday trade, is a candidate for the fifth spot in the Rockies' rotation.

``It was a control-your-emotions thing,' Smith said. ``I don't usually get that way, but I think coming from a new team and making a good impression, I kind of let it get to me a little bit and that's not my style.'

While the Rockies lineup featured Garrett Atkins, Brad Hawpe, Troy Tulowitzki and Clint Barmes, Angels manager Mike Scioscia's lineup featured only two starters, Bobby Abreu and Mike Napoli.

Scioscia said earlier this spring that most of his regulars won't begin playing in Cactus League games until the first week of March.

Abreu has been a fixture in the No. 2 spot in the lineup thus far. He's leaving Monday to play for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. Abreu went 2-for-3 with two doubles against Colorado to lift his spring average to .666.

``He wants to get ready for the WBC and he's stepping some things up,' Scioscia said. ``He looks good in the batter's box and very comfortable. He's seeing a lot of pitches and swinging the bat very well.'

Scioscia hasn't determined where he'll put Abreu in the regular lineup.

``Bobby's versatile,' Scioscia said. ``He can hit two, three, four or five in our lineup. His ability to drive in runs and set the table is going to be very important to us.'

Angels starter Sean O'Sullivan, 16-8 with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga last season, allowed two earned runs in one inning of work.
