Recap: Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 4

Game: 2
Venue: Chase Field
Date: May 04, 2011 9:40 PM EDT

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona manager Kirk Gibson was making a list as he watched the Diamondbacks lose to Colorado 6-4 on Wednesday.

He wasn't sharing the contents of his card after the game, but it's safe to say it wasn't a compilation of compliments for his players.

The Diamondbacks, Gibson said, ``didn't make the pitches, didn't make the plays, didn't run the bases good. All around, we weren't very good tonight against a very good team.'

Starting pitcher Barry Enright hit his first career homer on an otherwise difficult night. He gave up six runs in five innings. Three of his four walks came around to score.

``I left a few balls up and those are the ones that kind of hurt me,' he said. ``When I didn't keep being aggressive, I kept missing my spot a little bit. I made some good pitches but I made some bad ones too.'

Chris Iannetta hit a two-run homer and Jhoulys Chacin pitched seven effective innings for the Rockies.

Chacin (4-2) yielded solo homers by Enright and Kelly Johnson, but only one other hit. The 23-year-old right-hander, who had lost his last two starts, struck out six and walked four.

The Rockies jumped on Enright (1-3) for three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Todd Helton doubled in two runs and Seth Smith had an RBI single. Ian Stewart, recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday when Ty Wigginton went on the 15-day disabled list, had a run-scoring double.

``Tonight I really I feel like we got back to doing what it was that we were doing in the early part of the season to get us off to the start that we got off to,' Tracy said. ``We pitched very well. Jhoulys did a great job tonight. His secondary pitches, his curveball and changeup, were exceptional.'

Arizona rallied in the ninth. Third baseman Stewart robbed Ryan Roberts with a leaping grab but Juan Miranda followed with a drive off Matt Reynolds, who walked Gerardo Parra before Huston Street came in. Parra took second on defensive indifference and scored on pinch-hitter Melvin Mora's single with two down.

Chris Young singled to put runners on first and second before Street struck out Kelly Johnson for his 11th save in 11 tries.

Enright, who has dropped eight of his last nine decisions, went deep in the third, driving a 2-1 pitch into the left-field seats to make it 1-0.

Colorado responded in the fourth. With two outs and a runner on first, Stewart hit a high fly deep down the right-field line. Justin Upton got into position to make the catch, but the ball carried just over his glove for an RBI double.

``That is baseball but I think I let it affect me a little bit,' Enright said. ``I can't do that. I made two good pitches to Iannetta after that and the third one was horrible. I have to make that pitch and get out that inning 1-1.'

Iannetta drove the 0-2 pitch over the fence in left to make it 3-1.

``I put myself in a hole being down 0-2. He left a breaking ball up in the zone,' Iannetta said. ``I was able to put a good swing on it.'

Stewart entered the game with a .074 batting average and Iannetta began the day with a .183 average. They were seventh and eighth in the batting order.

``That's something here of late beyond the sixth spot we haven't gotten much,' Tracy said. ``We certainly need to get something because with the guys that are in front of those guys, they're going to come up to bat during the course of the season with people on base.'

In the fifth, Enright walked consecutive batters on full counts. With two outs, Helton doubled over the head of center fielder Young. Smith followed with a single to give Colorado a 6-1 lead.

Johnson connected with one out in the sixth for his fourth homer.

Arizona dropped to 5-4 on a 10-game homestand.

NOTES: Diamondbacks SS Stephen Drew sat out the game with a sore groin. ... Street's 11 saves are tied for most in the majors. ... Enright's homer was the 18th by an Arizona pitcher in franchise history. ... Rockies RHP Aaron Cook, on the 15-day DL since March 31 with a broken finger, pitched two simulated innings. ... Helton tied Lou Gehrig for 30th in career doubles with 534. ... Iannetta has thrown out three in a row trying to steal second.
