GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Ubaldo Jimenez showed little rust Tuesday with three scoreless innings to help the Colorado Rockies to a 12-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jimenez, the Rockies' projected opening day starter, made his first start of the spring look easy by giving up one hit with two strikeouts - but he did walk three batters.
``I was missing on a couple of balls up,' Jimenez said. ``Good thing my fastball was moving a lot.'
Seth Smith paced the Rockies on offense with a three hits and three RBI. His two-run double was the big blow during a three-run fourth inning.
The Rockies had 16 hits to the Dodgers' three.
Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits over two innings of his first spring start.
Kuroda mixed in a changeup and curve into his arsenal, two pitches he seldom used in the past.
``I think I had pretty good command and felt pretty good,' said Kuroda, the Dodgers' projected No. 3 starter. ``This is just the first game so I want to see what the batters' reactions are (to the new pitches) and get some feedback.'
Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton followed Kuroda by giving up a run on three hits in an inning of work.
High winds and cool temperatures made the conditions miserable for both teams, but the Rockies handled the elements just fine. After Jimenez, Greg Smith delivered three scoreless innings of his own, giving up two hits with three strikeouts.
For Dodgers manager Joe Torre the poor showing was the last look he will get of the club in Arizona for nearly a week. On Wednesday, he will leave for Taiwan with a split squad to play three exhibition games.
``If you go out there and play enough times you're gong to play an ugly game from time to time, but spring training makes it a little easier to swallow,' Torre said. ``There's no information that is bad information in spring training because everything you see will help you make decisions.'
