GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Aaron Cook's lack of control of his fastball led to his second straight ineffective start in spring training.

Cook, who has won 27 games the past two seasons for the Colorado Rockies, allowed six runs and six hits in three innings and the Chicago White Sox got a 6-1 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

``Once the season starts, that's when it really counts,' Cook said. ``But you don't want to be too rusty when the season starts, so hopefully we'll get these out of the way and get it under control.

``It's not mechanical. It's just feeling the ball coming out of your hand at the end, that's all it is,' Cook added.

Chicago had two three-run innings in winning for the first time at its home stadium. Alex Rios' first-inning triple drove in two, and Mark Kotsay and Juan Pierre had three hits and an RBI.

Rios left the game after three innings with pain in his left quadriceps, but manager Ozzie Guillen said it isn't serious.

``He's swinging the bat pretty good,' Guillen said. ``I don't want him to go out and aggravate it.'

Outfielder Carlos Quentin was hit twice with pitches and was removed for a pinch runner in the fourth, but is expected to play Wednesday.

Rockies infielder Omar Quintanilla injured his left knee and left the game after three innings.

The White Sox bullpen was strong in relief of starter Freddy Garcia. Randy Williams, Daniel Hudson, Sergio Santos and Greg Aquino, all competing for final roster spots, held the Rockies scoreless on two hits over six innings.

``They continue to throw the ball very good,' Guillen said. ``It's going to be hard to pick a couple.'

Notes: White Sox outfielder Jared Mitchell is expected to miss the 2010 season after surgery this morning to repair a torn tendon inside his left ankle. Mitchell will be immobilized for four to six weeks before beginning rehabilitation. Mitchell, a top prospect and former first-round draft pick, was injured making a catch against the wall on March 12. ... Pitcher Jake Peavy downplayed a rumor that he was in a major car accident earlier this week, saying he was only tapped from behind while stopped at a red light. ... The White Sox optioned pitchers Freddy Dolsi, Lucas Harrell, Jhonny Nunez, Brian Omogrosso and Clevelan Santeliz to Triple-A Charlotte, outrighted pitcher Brandon Hynick to Charlotte, optioned pitcher Santo Luis to Double-A Birmingham and reassigned catcher to Cole Armstrong to minor-league camp. Dolsi, formerly with the Detroit Tigers, has appeared in 48 major league games. ... The Rockies also assigned 16 players to their minor-league camp, including seven from their 40-man roster that were optioned: Pitchers Alberto Alburquerque, Juan Nicasio, Edgmer Escalona, Chaz Roe and Shane Lindsay; catcher Michael McKenry and infielder Hector Gomez. The non-roster invitees reassigned were pitchers Craig Baker, Andrew Johnston, Christian Friedrich and Andrew Graham; catchers Jordan Pacheco and Wilin Rosario; infielders Darin Holcomb and Jeff Kindel and outfielder Chris Frey.
