TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Shane Moseley is hoping to avoid a big decision by pitching his way into the Angels rotation.

Out of minor league options, Moseley said that he knows where he'd like to end up after he pitched two hitless innings in Los Angeles' 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

``I like my teammates. I like the coaches. I want to make this club. I want to do what I'm capable of doing,' Moseley said. ``I want to put up some solid innings for the guys.'

With the fifth spot in the Angels rotation open, Moseley is competing with Shane Loux and Nick Adenhart. The winner should hang around at least until Kelvim Escobar is ready to rejoin the rotation.

With Escobar and ace John Lackey injured last spring, Moseley won a job out of camp, but was replaced by Adenhart after posting a 1-2 record and a 7.30 ERA after five starts. He knows he'll have to be better than last year.

``I was behind on the count all last year,' Moseley said. ``There's a lot of good competition. These guys are throwing the ball real well. Shane (Loux) threw the ball real well yesterday. Adenhart's got a great arm. It's all about production. If I don't produce and I don't put up numbers, they'll find other guys to do it.'

After Moseley struck out three, Adenhart allowed a run over two innings. Both pitchers want to be better than Royals starter Gil Meche was Sunday in his first outing of the spring.

Meche, the Royals' opening-day starter the past two seasons, was roughed up for four hits and three runs in one inning.

``I had one inning to throw, but I felt like I threw three,' said Meche, 14-11 with a 3.98 ERA last season. ``It wasn't the outcome that you would have wanted, but my body felt good.'

David DeJesus had two of Kansas City's 10 hits. Terry Evans had two of the Angels nine hits. Royals manager Trey Hillman wasn't worried over Meche's tough beginning.

``We dont have any concerns other than just getting him going and getting him to locate pitches better,' Hillman said. ``He wasn't real sharp. The ball got out of his hand real good. He had good angle. Obviously, he spun it good. He just wasn't real sharp with is command.'
