SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Carl Pavano is off to such a good spring training start for the Minnesota Twins that he decided he needed more work.

After Pavano pitched three scoreless innings for the Twins in their 2-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, he went to the bullpen and threw some more. That didn't go nearly as well.

``That's really what I don't want to talk about,' Pavano said. ``I threw three scoreless innings. The guy in the bullpen was terrible.'

After Pavano allowed just one hit, a single to J.J. Hardy in the third, then picked him off. He faced the minimum nine batters, so he wanted to throw some more.

``I was throwing balls all over the place. It was kind of weird,' Pavano said.

Pavano, who won Minnesota's first exhibition game on Sunday, has pitched five scoreless innings and allowed two hits.

``I try not to put too much on it, but it's nice to go out there and have some success,' Pavano said. ``It's another part of the process of spring training.'

Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire was happy with Pavano's outing.

``He's right on line, very professional, goes about his business, kept the ball down, used all of his pitches. As usual, he complained when we took him out,' Gardenhire said. ``He wanted to pitch more - so that's normal. It wouldn't be right if Carl was pleased.'

Glen Perkins pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Chuck James worked the sixth, Jim Hoey followed with six outs for the win, and Anthony Swarzak finished.

Minnesota scored twice in the eighth off Chorye Spoone on Brian Dozier's sacrifice fly and Luke Hughes' RBI single.

Brian Matusz pitched two hitless innings for the Orioles in his first start. After the game, manager Buck Showalter announced that the left-hander would have a wart removed from the middle finger of his left hand on Friday in Philadelphia.

``He'll maybe miss a start, probably miss a start to be on the safe side,' Showalter said. ``We don't want this thing to be something that really shows up in the middle of the season and now he misses more than one start.'

The teams combined for 14 hits - 12 of them singles.

``Very pitcher-friendly day,' Showalter said.

NOTES: Baltimore RHP Koji Uehara had a cortisone shot on his right elbow. ... The Orioles had won their first three exhibition games. ... Baltimore's Josh Bell started for the first time at first base. ... Hoey, who won the game for the Twins, is a former Orioles pitcher. He was traded to Minnesota in the deal that brought Hardy to Baltimore.
