PHOENIX (AP) -Ozzie Guillen was angry.

The White Sox made four errors Sunday during a 12-10 victory over the Oakland Athletics, and the Chicago manager let his players know how bad the defensive display was.

``I couldn't say how good our pitching was, because our (defense) was pathetic,' Guillen said. ``Our pitching looked good because our (defense) was worse. Our defense has got to better. There are two weeks before the start of the season. We've got to play better. It's embarrassing watching guys like that.'

Second baseman Brent Lillibridge made two errors. Outfielder Josh Fields and shortstop Eider Torres each made one apiece.

White Sox starter Clayton Richard gave up seven runs - five earned - and 11 hits in four innings. The 25-year-old left-hander, in the mix for the rotation if Bartolo Colon and Jose Contreras aren't healthy, was hurt in the first inning by wind-blown popups and bad defense. Then he was hit hard in a four-run third.

``I felt physically good, but there were some pitches I'd like to have back,' he said. ``It happens. You've got to minimize the damage, and I didn't do that.'

Oakland's Vin Mazzaro, a 22-year-old right-hander, allowed seven runs, six hits and two walks in two innings. In his past two outings, he has given up 10 runs in 4 2-3 innings.

``It's a learning experience,' Mazzaro said. ``I know I have a few things to work on. I just need to take what I did today into the bullpen and my throwing program and make some adjustments.'

A's left-hander Dallas Braden, whose scheduled start on Saturday was scratched because of pain from a root canal, followed and gave up three runs in 5 1-3 innings.

Notes: Guillen had ``OPD' written on his cap in honor of the Oakland police officers killed Saturday during a traffic stop. The A's said the dead officers had worked at home games and some had been team escorts. ``Our hearts and prayers go out to their families,' the team said in a statement.' ... A's SS Orlando Cabrera missed his second consecutive game because of back stiffness and is not going to play until at least Friday, manager Bob Geren said. Cabrera, who was sick before he had the back problem, will have gone 10 days without playing a game. ... Oakland 3B Eric Chavez took 25 swings of batting practice in the cage Sunday, the first time he hit in two weeks. Chavez said it was ``very good.' Chavez is expected to take a day off from hitting on Monday and take batting practice on the field on Tuesday. ... A's C Kurt Suzuki had four hits, including a triple. ... LF Aaron Cunningham threw out SS Eider Torres at the plate. ... RHP Joey Devine threw 32 pitches in the bullpen with no problems. Devine, who had been out with a sore elbow, is to pitch in a minor league game on Tuesday.
