SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Daniel Hudson is working on having more success right from the start.

Hudson struck out six in four innings Friday, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

He struck out the side in the first but gave up two runs - in the second inning - two hits, a walk and hit a batter.

``I need to work on putting guys away with two strikes and getting out of the first inning with less damage,' said Hudson. ``I have to be more focused out there and try to put an emphasis on making swing and miss pitches with two strikes.'

The 25-year-old started last season 0-4 with a 5.92 ERA. But he turned things around and finished 16-12.

Hudson had trouble starting games last season. In first innings he had an ERA of 6.00 and batters hit .319 against him.

``The biggest thing is he needs to improve his composure,' Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson said. ``I know he wants to attack what he does in the first inning. He wants to be more effective with that. He is such a perfectionist. He gets frustrated with himself and it gets counterproductive. He gives up some runs early and gets frustrated."

Hudson is slated to be the No. 2 starter in the rotation.

``I can't wear everything on my sleeve,' Hudson said. ``It is a good trait about me and it is also a bad trait about me. I need to look forward and get the next guy. It is a mentality thing. You tell yourself not to worry about it.'

Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run triple and Geoff Blum also had two RBIs, for the Diamondbacks.

John Danks, who signed a five-year, $65 million contract extension in December, gave up four runs - three earned - five hits and two walks in four innings.

``I stunk so bad at this point I was glad to go out there and have a good outing,' Danks said. ``All my pitches felt good I even threw a curveball. All in all today was a very positive day. You want to go out there and have some success but in the grand scheme of things in the first half of spring training you are just building up your arm strength. In the second half you want to hit the ground running when the season starts.'

Danks also had a two-run single in the second inning.

NOTES: White Sox 3B Brent Morel was a late scratch because of back stiffness. Chicago 1B-DH Adam Dunn, who was a late scratch from Tuesday's and Thursday's starting lineups because of a sore neck, also sat out Friday's game. . Diamondbacks INF Ryan Ryal left the game in the sixth inning with an injured left hamstring. Gibson said Ryal heard a pop and could be out for a while. . Arizona snapped a six-game losing streak at home. The club had been outscored 55-7 in those contests. The crowd of 15,559 set a new Salt River Field record. It is the fourth sellout in seven games this spring for Arizona.
