SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Jamie Moyer is less than a year away from being as old as the number on the back of his uniform, 50. Yet the crafty left-hander is back on the mound, trying to make a comeback after having Tommy John surgery.

Moyer is competing for a spot in Colorado's rotation and was solid in his second spring training outing. He allowed a run in three innings and a Rockies split squad beat the Chicago White 5-2 Sox on Sunday.

``I feel pretty healthy,' Moyer said. ``It's mind over matter. I want to play. I believe I can play.'

John Danks, who is expected to be Chicago's opening day starter, struggled with his command, walking four and allowing three runs - one earned - in three innings.

Jason Giambi went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk for the Rockies.

Moyer tried out a cutter Sunday, throwing it twice. One cutter resulted in a ball. The other resulted in a base hit. He said he needs to build his endurance, and arm strength will help

him throw the cutter. Moyer missed all of last season after having elbow reconstruction surgery.

With a fastball in the low 80s, he has pitched 24 seasons in the majors.

Moyer struck out two and allowed three hits. He struck out A.J. Pierzynski in the third inning on a two-seam fastball after throwing him changeups.

``I've kind of looked at my whole career as a spring training invite,' said Moyer, whose spring ERA is 1.80. ``I've always approached spring training as I have something to prove.'

Danks, meanwhile, has given up six runs - four earned - in five innings this spring. Sunday, he gave up three hits, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.

After signing a five-year, $65-million contract in the offseason, Danks will likely lead a rotation that includes a healthier Jake Peavy, Gavin Floyd, converted reliever Chris Sale and Philip Humber.

``I know it'll come,' Danks said. ``I feel good. That's the most important thing. As the spring goes on, we'll focus a lot more on results. Obviously, we're out there trying to do well, but at this

point, we're just trying to get pitch count up, stay healthy, and I feel good.'

Danks acknowledged the number of walks was frustrating. He's issued seven walks and struck out two this spring.

``We're all competitive,' he said. ``In the grand scheme of things, I know where I need to be. I have full confidence I'll get to where I need to be by the time the season starts.'

In particular, Danks said he's working on the consistency of his changeup. He said once his changeup is more effective, more positive results will come.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura placed the blame on Danks' release point.

``Everything else, his competitiveness and what he takes out there, his energy, everything that goes with that, I'm fine with,' Ventura said. ``He's just fine-tuning everything. We still have plenty of time.'

NOTES: White Sox pitcher Gregory Infante exited in the sixth inning with a strained left oblique. He pitched five games in the majors with Chicago in 2010. . White Sox infielder Brent Lillibridge played at shortstop for the first time this spring. He committed a fielding error in the second inning. .Adam Dunn is expected to get a day off Monday. He is 3 for 11 at the plate this spring. ``He's been swinging it great,' Ventura said. Dunn started at first base in place of Paul

Konerko and is expected to spell Konerko at first during the season. . Rockies catcher Ramon Hernandez is 5 for 5 in throwing out baserunners. . White Sox top prospect Addison Reed committed an error and allowed an unearned run in one inning.
