Cubs, P Samardzija reach one-year deal

CHICAGO (AP) - Pitchers Jeff Samardzija and James Russell have agreed to one-year contracts with the Chicago Cubs and avoided arbitration.
The deals were announced Friday.
Samardzija's salary is $2.64 million and he could earn an additional $125,000 in performance bonuses. Russell is set to earn $1.075 million next season.
