Indians' unforgettable run stops suddenly
October 3, 2013
By The Associated Press
CLEVELAND (AP) - Their turnaround season hit a dead end as the Indians' unforgettable run finished with disappointment.
Although they didn't carry their September charm into October, the Indians, who streaked in both directions for six months, came away satisfied with all they accomplished in 2013 and believe they can do even more the next time around. In manager Terry Francona's first season, the Indians went from 94 losses to 92 wins and they rekindled their relationship with a disbelieving fan base that had become distant and disenchanted.
The Indians' major weakness was exposed in Wednesday night's 4-0 loss to Tampa Bay. Cleveland lacked a run-producing bat in the middle of the lineup all season, and their two major offseason acquisitions - Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn - didn't deliver in big spots.
