Indians non-tender C Marson

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Indians did not tender a contract to catcher Lou Marson, who was slowed by injuries in 2013.
Marson was dropped from Cleveland's roster on Monday, making the 27-year-old a free agent. Marson, who played in 253 games for the Indians since 2009, became expendable with the emergence of catcher Yan Gomes.
The club avoided salary arbitration with relievers Frank Herrmann and Blake Wood by signing them to one-year contracts. Both pitchers are coming off Tommy John surgery and will make $560,000 in 2014.
The Indians also did not tender contracts to outfielder Matt Carson and right-hander Tyler Cloyd.
Marson joined the Indians in 2009, coming over in the trade that sent Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee to Philadelphia. Marson was primarily a backup catcher for Cleveland. He was injured in a home-plate collision against Tampa Bay on April 6 and spent two stints on the disabled list. He appeared in just three games for the Indians last season.
