PITTSBURGH (AP) - Catcher Omir Santos and the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a minor league contract.
The 32-year hit .248 with nine doubles, three homers and 23 RBIs last year in 61 games at Cleveland's Triple-A Columbus farm team. In his only major league at-bat of the season, he fouled out April 9 against the New York Yankees.
Santos has played in part of five big league seasons but got the majority of his playing time with the New York Mets in 2009, when he hit .260 with seven homers and 40 RBIs.
He will report to major league spring training with Friday's deal and compete for a backup job with Chris Stewart and Tony Sanchez behind Russell Martin.
