PITTSBURGH (AP) - Aramis Ramirez had an RBI groundout shortly after Jonathan Lucroy was awarded a double on fan interference and Yovani Gallardo outdueled spot-starter Jeff Locke as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 on Sunday.

Gallardo (4-4) gave up four hits and a walk over seven innings for Milwaukee. He struck out a season-high eight.

Locke (0-1) returned to the form that earned him a bid to the 2013 All-Star game, allowing three hits and a run in seven innings. He struck out five and walked three while pitching in place of Charlie Morton, whose start was pushed back a day.

The Pirates also placed right-hander Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list.

Lucroy led off the seventh with a double, aided by fan interference. He advanced to second base on a fly to center field and scored on Ramirez's soft grounder to first base.

The Pirates loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out. Russell Martin led off with a single, Pedro Alvarez reached on a fielder's choice and Martin beat the throw to second, then Jordy Mercer was safe at first on a bunt single.

But Gallardo struck out pinch-hitter Jose Tabata and induced a popup to first base off the bat of Josh Harrison.

After he was stranded on third in the seventh, Martin came up in the eighth with Andrew McCutchen on third base with two outs.

Against Milwaukee closer Francisco Rodriguez, brought in for a four-out save, Martin struck out looking at a curveball on the lower-inside edge of the plate.

The catcher was then ejected after he spiked his bat and helmet in the batter's box. Manager Clint Hurdle soon followed when he confronted home plate umpire Ed Hickox about the call.

Pittsburgh left a total of 10 men on base, five of which were stranded in scoring position.

In the ninth, Rodriguez walked Starling Marte and Ike Davis, and Marte advanced to third when Travis Snider reached on a fielder's choice. But Rodriguez got Harrison to fly out to center to end the game and record his 19th save.

NOTES Pirates RHP Gerrit Cole was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game with right shoulder fatigue, retroactive to June 4. LHP Jeff Locke took his spot on the 25-man roster. . Pirates RHP Charlie Morton (2-7, 3.31 ERA) was scheduled to start Sunday but was pushed back to Monday to receive an extra day of rest. . Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy collected three hits Sunday and improved his batting average to .335, third-best in the National League.
