As we approach the month of August, it’s about time that we separate the pretenders from the contenders. We may find a strength or weakness to exploit when placing a wager during a day game in the month of August.
Let's take a look at how some of these contending clubs performed in the dog days of August last season.
2004 Daytime Records in August
American League
L.A. Angels: 8-2
Baltimore Orioles: 7-5
Boston Red Sox: 4-2
Chicago White Sox: 5-2
Minnesota Twins: 7-4
N.Y. Yankees: 6-5
Oakland A's: 6-6
Toronto Blue Jays: 6-6
National League
Atlanta Braves: 7-1
Chicago Cubs: 8-6
Florida Marlins: 5-1
Houston Astros: 6-4
L.A. Dodgers: 7-4
N.Y. Mets: 4-8
Philadelphia Phillies: 3-6
St. Louis Cardinals: 5-2
San Diego Padres: 4-3
Washington Nationals: 3-2
The A.L. had only one club that dominated daytime action. The Angels 8-2 (80%) record was very impressive, but not one of these clubs were worse than .500.
The Braves and Marlins were very strong in the National League posting a combined 12-2 mark. Bringing up the rear, the Phillies (3-6) and Mets (4-8) records are something to keep an eye out for.
There are "bet on" & "bet against" teams in certain situations. August Daytime Games are some to keep an eye out for. Arms get tired, people get tired. Some persevere.
